ECW: "The Hardcore Revolution" Column 1
Welcome to the first column of ECW: "The Hardcore Revolution"!
This is so that I can make believers out of everyone that ECW is the greatest brand on WWE TV.
(As a side note I will be putting every superstar name in bold for those of you who only want to read about a specific ECW superstar.)
Not only does it have the best competitors, but it is the best written.
For starters lets look at the Last episode of ECW on 2/24/09.
Wow wow wow. Is it just me or is Tyson Kidd going to be an amazing superstar in the future and is already one of the best technical wrestlers I've seen in a while?
I hope to God that they bring up DH Smith to ECW after WrestleMania and begin to push Kidd, Smith, and Natalya as the "New Hart Foundation".
Kidd has an amazing look to him and is so cocky in the ring that it makes you want to watch him. He reminds me of a young Chris Jericho with a whole lot of Owen Hart.
His match vs the Jobber was great. Hi controlled the whole time and showed off alot of technical and submission skills. He also had an aura of cockiness that drew me to him. Also the way Natalya leads him to the ring is beautiful.
This kid is money and makes ECW 10 times better.
Next we have Jack Swagger. Who ever thought to push him needs a raise and a half, heck give him an executive job.
Swagger is the face of ECW for now and that is a good thing. He needs some work on his mic skills, but he has the charisma to keep you interested. His ring work is flawless and he is a beast.
I loved the angle they threw into the Christian match where Swagger just worked over that arm.
He's got the brains, the muscle, and the skill. I would say he is untouchable.
I'm so happy they did not take the title from Swagger and it seems they'll have him walk in to WrestleMania with the belt.
As I just mentioned Christian I'll go over him next.
What a good move by WWE creative to bring Christian to ECW. I know a lot of people think it is stupid, but where else is he a good fit. There is too much going on at the other shows and a good amount of their names are not even making the ring.
Christian came in like a bat out of hell and is starting to dwindle a bit, but he still looks really strong. His skill and charisma are keystones to this brand.
ECW needed a big name star to come in and help them breeze past the other brands and Finlay/Henry just will not do that for you.
Even though he lost to Swagger this week he still has did a lot of good and showed alot of heart.
The downfall of this match is the fact that Christian only has one big move and could not hit it to get the win, where as Swagger is just a beast of a man and can hit alot of power moves to put the hurt on you.
Overall, Christian is going to get back into the swing of things in the big leagues in ECW and will develop his game to be one of the bet in the business.
The best thing about ECW over all the other brands is the fact that they use almost every superstar on the roster.
The only ones not on this Episode were Finlay, Hornswoggle, Ricky Ortiz, The Miz & Morrison (who in their defense competed on Raw) and Evan Bourne (who is still out on injury).
Mark Henry showed why he is the worlds strongest man against DJ Gabriel this week. This was an over all great match with DJ making some good attempts, but just falling short at the hands of Henry.
DJ Gabriel is another great figure that ECW has and he has a good feel to him. His look is definite potential and he has a great manager in Alicia Fox.
The biggest part of this last episode is the fact that Tommy Dreamer won a match!
I thought for a second that Vince McMahon was going to completely continue to dump on him till June, but this gives me hope that he might yet have another title reign in him.
Paul Burchil looked good and is playing his feud with The Boogeyman well.
I thought a while back he had the ability to be the Intercontinental Champion on Raw, but yet again another good talent looked over for no reason.
Burchil and his sister Katie Lea are a great fit on ECW. Not only is it a third couple group on the brand, but their tenacity is really a driving force in their matches. A true homage to the old school.
Overall ECW is becoming the driving force of the WWE and though they do not have a HBK, a HHH, or a Taker they still have great talent that would be top tier on any of the other brands.
So in final thought Long Live ECW and Long live The Extreme!
