Free Agency: What the Heck Are Some Teams Doing or Not Doing?

Thomas MorelandFeb 28, 2009

Albert Haynesworth signing with the Washington Redskins for seven years, $100 million has been biggest deal of free agency thus in this 2009 NFL off-season.

Washington shores up its defense with this move.

Too bad, its offense probably needs a little more help now.

Dallas picked up a decent back-up quarterback in Jon Kitna, and this may help them if Tony Romo goes down again.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia lets Brian Dawkins go to the Broncos, as well as Correll Buckhalter. They did sign big Stacy Andrews to help protect McNabb; however, I am still waiting for the running back help and a big receiver for that much-needed offensive punch.

I may change my prediction of Philadelphia winning this division if they don't step up to the plate soon.

Kellen Winslow signs Tampa Bay. This one just mystifies me. Tampa Bay has stated they are rebuilding, so why bother with this one? I would think they have quarterback issues and defensive players to replace as well.

I thought the tight-end situation was all right, and it's quality wide receivers they need to be competitive.

Tampa Bay is not going anywhere in 2009.

Kerry Collins remains a Titan. Like last season, Collins will have decent, but not great numbers.

New England signed Fred Taylor, which i think was a solid move, gaining a very good quality running back.

The big news today was Matt Cassell going the Chiefs, along with linebacker Mike Vrabel in exchance for a second-round draft pick. Is this enough for Cassell? Doesn't seem like it. They must have faith that Brady is totally ready for 2009.

Other teams are shoring up positions and making moves too. There is much action going on in football as far as personnel changes.

I like what Denver is doing. Maybe they have a pulse on what they need to do to improve on their dismal finish last season.

New England, Washington, and Denver all get an A this week in management.

Philadelphia, Arizona, and Chicago all get a D.

The Bears should have made a play for Cassell. Philadelphia is sitting on their hands. Arizona needs to take care of the only quarterback that has taken them to a Super Bowl.

Let's see what happens next week.
