BJ Penn and Georges St. Pierre Need To Fight Again, and Soon

Jason CottierFeb 28, 2009

I just watched this fight again off my DVR.  I needed to put in my two cents on the topic.  When I watched it the first time I thought that was the end of all of the controversy.

Even after hearing the reports of GSP greasing up, I thought that it really didn't effect the match anyway, what does it matter.  I am a BJ Penn fan, and I really did not enjoy watching him get dismantled, so I shied away from watching it again.  I usually watch every one two or three times before I feel as though I got my money out of it and I can delete it to make room for any more.

Well as I was about to delete this one I just had to watch it again.  I noticed myself that BJ's leg just slid off of GSP on a few occaisions, and GSP just basically did what he wanted.  As a person that tries to keep from making excuses I can see both sides of the argument now.

BJ's side is that the fight would have been different if he were able to use his rubber guard, and ability to control the fight better on the ground.  I also think that the fight could very well end up the same way after watching it twice.  In order to have the end of an argument it would have to be done without controversy.

Not only did Penn happen to have a valid argument on his hands, but there were others who pointed it out.

Dana White himself admitted that GSP's corner was doing an illegal move by greasing him up.  He seems to think it was not GSP's fault, but he surely saw the man apply the Vaseline to his hands before he put it on his shoulders.  I saw the pictures posted on Yahoo, and it was obvious that is what was going on.

Would Barry Bonds be a shoe-in for the hall of fame without steroids...yes he would, but a lot of people on the outside do not see it that way.  Would GSP have beaten Penn had he not had an illegal advantage...maybe, but we need to see while we still have the time.

So before anyone attempts to jump on me over any of this all I am saying is that we deserve as fans to see this come to a conclusion fair and square with no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
