Manchester United Transfer Rumors: Highlighting Latest Buzz Surrounding the Club

Patrick ClarkeJun 5, 2018

As the world football transfer window comes to a close on Friday, one of Europe's top clubs, Manchester United, is sure to be in the mix to buy and sell some of the best players on the market.

United finished second behind Manchester City in the English Premier League last season, but looks to be the favorite to win the EPL in 2012-13 after already having made some impressive additions this summer.

No move was more earth-shaking than United's signing of former Arsenal striker Robin van Persie, however. Van Persie led the EPL in goals last season and now gives the club the firepower necessary to dethrone City.

What else does Sir Alex Ferguson have in store before Friday's deadline?

Let's take a look at some of the latest buzz surrounding Manchester United in the midst of the closing transfer window.

Wayne Rooney

For some reason, the EPL's second-leading scorer from a season ago has found himself the subject of transfer rumors. The Mirror's David McDonnell reported earlier this week that "Rooney fears Manchester United are preparing to offload him for £40 million."

McDonnell's report cites a lack of superstar-caliber production and a failing relationship with manager Sir Alex Ferguson as the cause of Rooney's concerns.

The 26-year-old world-class striker still has plenty of sensational play ahead of him but will likely miss the next two weeks of the season with a right thigh gash.

At this point, it's hard to imagine Rooney being shipped away unless it's some time down the road. Perhaps next summer is the earliest it would happen.

Nani

United star winger Nani has also been included in transfer rumors this August.

Here is McDonnell describing Nani's situation earlier this week in a report for The Mirror:

"

Team-mate Nani, who was left out of United’s squad against Fulham, could soon be on his way to Zenit St Petersburg in a £22m deal as contract talks stalled.

"

A 25-year-old midfielder, Nani boasts tremendous speed and has a knack for making plays on the attack.

Although United's added firepower this summer would allow them to survive a Nani transfer, they would hardly benefit from losing the Portuguese player.

Liam Moore

19-year-old defender Liam Moore has been drawing interest from Manchester United late this summer.

According to The Daily Mail, Sir Alex Ferguson is very much into the idea of adding the Leicester City defender, who has been scouted by other top English clubs as well including Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.

Moore would certainly be a brilliant long-term addition this summer. Of course he would have to adjust to life in the EPL and develop his skills before he could make an impact as a starter right away.

As a big-bodied defender with all the necessary physical attributes, however, it would only be a matter of time before Moore reached his full potential.
