Southampton vs. Manchester United: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Zachary ArthurJun 7, 2018

The English Premier League is off to an interesting start after teams like Manchester City and Arsenal have struggled to get off to great seasons. Another one of those teams is Manchester United, but their fans should not be afraid, it looks as though the ship has righted itself.

This Sunday, Manchester United will be traveling to Southampton for their third match of the season. Manchester United is looking for their second straight win after they defeated Fulham by a score of 3-2 last weekend for their first win of the season. The unsteady play looks to be behind them as they build on that victory.

Southampton lost a difficult season opener to Manchester City and the beginning of their season only got worse as Wigan Athletic beat them last week in a 2-0 shutout. Southampton is probably watching game tape of their season opening loss because they actually played well against a great team. The same will need to happen against Manchester United if they want to pick up their first points of the season.

Can Southampton Squeeze Out a Draw?

This is a public forum for opinion so let's be honest here. Southampton would be lucky to pick up their first points of the season in this one.

They are nowhere near as talented or organized as the Manchester United squad. Sure, they have a few nice pieces and they put together a great game in their season opener, but the facts are the facts.

It's going to be incredibly difficult for Southampton to come out of this game with a draw, but that doesn't mean that they are going to sit around and watch Manchester United run all over them. Competing is going to be their only shot at leaving this game with a point, and that's exactly what you can expect them to do. You never know what just might happen.

Good Joke, Manchester United, Now It's Time to Play Some Football

Robin Van Persie's strong game last week will be looked at as the start of what Manchester United ends up doing this year. His solid play couldn't be more crucial to the team. Van Persie playing with consistency is the only way for Manchester United to continue to play well.

Good news, he'll keep it up.

Both Manchester United and Van Persie should be licking their chops for this one. It's an opportunity to turn up the intensity and to make a statement. Beating Southampton in a convincing fashion will let people know that their season opening loss was truly a fluke and that this team is still a contender.

Manchester United Wins, 3-1

The only reason that Southampton will get a goal in this one will be because Manchester United will be putting in their reserves relatively early after scoring three goals.

Manchester United is just too good and too strong for Southampton. They look to have their lineup figured out now that Van Persie is playing well and it will show on Sunday.

This could be the beginning of a stretch of dominance for Manchester United.
