William & Mary vs. Maryland: TV Schedule, Live Stream, Radio, Game Time and More

Brian MaziqueJun 7, 2018

William & Mary head coach Jimmye Laycock wants to help facilitate a great college athletic experience for his players. Pulling an upset over Maryland on Saturday would be a huge step in that direction.

Laycock has been the coach of the IAA FCS Tribe for 32 years, and he has become synonymous with the program. If he can guide his team to a victory over the Terrapins, it would be the biggest win in the school's history.

Maryland is trying to rebound from a dreadful season in 2011. They were 2-10, losing their final eight games of the season.

It would seem the Terrapins are just the right type of team for the Tribe to gain some recognition against. Surely Maryland is aware of the upstart thoughts of William & Mary, but will they be able to thwart the upset bid?

Here's how you can catch the action:

When: Saturday, 3 p.m. ET

Where: Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium in College Park, MD

TV: ESPN 3

Live Stream: ESPN 3

Radio: WJZ-FM 105.7 in Baltimore, MD

Injury Report

William & Mary

LB - Dante Cook (out per Jimmye Laycock in video on William & Mary team site.)

Maryland

QB - C.J. Brown (out for season with torn right ACL, per Fox Sports)

What's At Stake

For William & Mary, there is nothing really at stake. They are in the enviable position of playing with nothing to lose.

If they get blown out, no one will bat an eye, as the ACC team will have done what they were expected to do.

The Terrapins, on the other hand, have plenty at stake. William & Mary may be from the Colonial Athletic Conference, but they are well coached. Maryland isn't much improved from the team that mustered only two wins last season.

Playing without starting QB Brown only adds to the woes.

At face value it looks like a game the Terps should win easily at home, but things could get interesting. If the Terps lose, it would be a huge psychological blow to the team early in the season.

In addition to that, a loss could just about ensure Randy Edsall's dismissal as head coach.

What They Are Saying

Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post describes Laycock's three-fold college experience he promises recruits:

"

When Jimmye Laycock recruits, the William & Mary football coach promises players a three-fold “complete football experience”: a good education, the opportunity to compete for championships and the challenge of playing against a bigger school in a bigger stadium.

"Those are the games they remember for the rest of their lives," Laycock, in his 33rd season leading the Tribe, told The Post in a telephone interview.

"

This is certainly one of those games, and because of the motivation the Tribe will bring to College Park, this could be a very tough game.

Edsall said this to Fox Sports after Brown went down with the injury that ended his season:

"

We have to move forward, Perry will be working the 1s today; Caleb will be with the 2s. Everybody has to be ready to go because injuries are part of the game.

"

Edsall was referring to true freshman Perry Hills who will be starting the opener. This is getting scarier by the moment for the Terrapins.

Players to Watch

William & Mary - Brent Caprio

The junior QB started the final three games of the 2011 season. He threw for six scores, ran for one and only threw one interception.

If he can maintain his composure, he will have opportunities against a defense that gave up 34.3 points per game in 2011.

Maryland - Perry Hills

Hills was a three-star recruit out of Pittsburgh, PA per Rivals. He is a pocket passer, but he has decent mobility, as he is listed as running a 4.6-second 40-yard dash.

His biggest challenge will be composure, but the early starting experience against a team like the Tribe is a good way to debut.

He'll be at home so he should have very opportunity to succeed.

Prediction

I think this game will be close, but I believe the Terps will eek out a win. Laycock's teams rarely embarrass themselves, but the Terps will be playing with tons of desperation.

I'm taking Maryland 24-17 in this one.
