Dimitar Berbatov Transfer to Fulham From Manchester United Confirmed

Former Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov has officially joined Fulham.

Berbatov will remain in the EPL this season and play for Fulham according to the club's Twitter account on Friday:

Berbatov will now have an opportunity to showcase his talents on a squad with room for him this season.

The chances of Berbatov staying at Old Trafford before Friday's transfer deadline day seemed slim, since United would have been foolish to keep the Bulgarian if he wasn't going to play a huge role in the squad.

Berbatov has not played in either of United's two Premier League games this season, and he appeared in only 14 league matches last year.

According to BBC Sport, reigning Serie A champions Juventus showed interest in Berbatov, but the Italian club wasn't his first choice.

Giuseppe Marotta, director general of Juventus, said: "There was a proposal by Fulham. We made our own, then the player said he preferred to stay in England for family reasons."

Fulham refused to comment when contacted by BBC Sport.

Berbatov would bring a wealth of Premier League experience to Fulham. With the club possibly losing star midfielder Clint Dempsey before the transfer window closes, it is important that Jol finds a proven goal scorer to help the club secure a top-10 finish in the league and possibly qualify for the Europa League.

Just two years ago, Berbatov was the Golden Boot winner in the Premier League after tying Manchester City star Carlos Tevez for the most league goals.

Berbatov would make a significant impact at Fulham. He would be able to display his goal-scoring talents to the fans when he receives the first-team football that he deserves.
