Week-by-Week Predictions and Scores for New York Jets
After a disappointing end to the 2011 NFL season, the New York Jets were the most talked about and scrutinized team in the NFL this past offseason.
The Jets made a splashy move by acquiring former Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow and have thus brought controversy to the quarterback position in Gotham City. Rex Ryan will certainly be under tons of pressure to get the Jets back to the postseason, where he helped guide them to two consecutive AFC Championship games in 2010 and 2011.
Starting quarterback Mark Sanchez feels that he can have a Pro Bowl-caliber season and will need monster years from wideout Santonio Holmes and tight end Dustin Keller for the Jets to have success.
On defense, All-Pro cornerback Darelle Revis anchors a potent defense poised with playmakers such as Calvin Pace, David Harris, LaRon Landry, Antonio Cromartie, and rookie Quinton Coples.
So how will the 2012 Jets season turn out? Let's take a look...
Week 1: Buffalo Bills (Home)
1 of 17The Buffalo Bills got much better on defense this offseason after signing Mario Williams and Mark Anderson. The Jets have only lost one time to Buffalo with Rex Ryan as head coach and I think the trend continues. Buffalo's offense can't do enough to steal a win at Metlife.
Final: Jets 20, Bills 17
Week 2: Pittsburgh Steelers (Away)
2 of 17This is a difficult task for the Jets. They head into Pittsburgh to take on the always challenging Steelers. Even without Rashard Mendenhall, I think the Steelers defense overwhelms Mark Sanchez and the rest of the Jets offense in a blowout victory.
Final: Steelers 27, Jets 13
Week 3- Miami Dolphins (Away)
3 of 17I honestly believe the Jets will have their overall best performance of the year this week at Miami. Tebow scores two rushing touchdowns and the Jets roll.
Final: Jets 38 Dolphins 14
Week 4: San Francisco 49ers (Home)
4 of 17Another early season challenge for Gang Green. I think the Jets fight hard but come up just short in a defensive struggle.
Final: 49ers 16, Jets 7
Week 5: Houston Texans (Home)
5 of 17The Texans will walk all over the Jets in this primetime matchup. One of the best defenses and most lethal offenses proves to be way to much, as Houston puts up big numbers against the Jets
Final: Houston 34, Jets 20
Week 6: Indianapolis Colts (Home)
6 of 17The Jets will bounce back from an early loss and will defeat Andrew Luck and the Colts.
Final: Jets 30, Colts 16
Week 7: New England Patriots (Away)
7 of 17This one could get ugly. Brady and company will put on an offensive clinic, and Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez will each catch a TD. Pats roll.
Final: Patriots 31, Jets 10
Week 8: Miami Dolphins (Home)
8 of 17Beware of the division rival. The Miami Dolphins will be fired up to come into Jersey and will send thousands home unhappy, as Miami puts a huge blow into the Jets playoff hopes with a dramatic victory.
Final: Dolphins 31, Jets 25 (OT)
Bye Week
9 of 17The bye week comes at a great time for the Jets. They will re-group and be ready to head on a two-game road stint.
Week 10: Seattle Seahawks (Away)
10 of 17The Jets usually struggle on the West Coast, but I like them in this matchup. The defense keeps the Jets in the ballgame and Sanchez comes up big late.
Final: Jets 21, Seattle 17
Week 11: St. Louis Rams (Away)
11 of 17The Jets should cruise to victory in this contest. The defense shines, and the Jets win a second consecutive road game.
Final: Jets 24, Rams 13
Week 12: New England Patriots (Home)
12 of 17Gut feeling here. The Jets win this one. With the lights on and nobody giving them a shot to win, the New York Jets will beat the Patriots at home and launch themselves into the thick of the wild card race.
Final: Jets 28, Patriots 24
Week 13: Arizona Cardinals (Home)
13 of 17WARNING: TRAP GAME
The Jets don't bring their " A" game and Larry Fitzgerald scores twice as the Cardinals pull out a win.
Final: Arizona 23, Jets 22
Week 14: Jacksonville Jaguars (Away)
14 of 17The Jets WILL win this game. Emphasis on the "will" because the heat will certainly be on Rex Ryan at this point. Jets improve to 7-6.
Final: Jets 20, Jaguars 10
Week 15: Tennessee Titans (Away)
15 of 17I like the Jets to win. They shut down Chris Johnson and keep their playoff hopes alive.
Final: Jets 27, Titans 21
Week 16: San Diego Chargers (Home)
16 of 17The Jets win an ugly game at home against Philip Rivers and head to Buffalo for a win-and-in game.
Final: Jets 28, Chargers 20
Week 17: Buffalo Bills (Away)
17 of 17Buffalo will beat the Jets at Home. On a snowy day up in Buffalo, Mario Williams gets past the Jets offensive line and sends the Jets home early for the second straight year.
Final: Buffalo 24, Jets 20
Thus, the Jets end the season at 9-7 and miss the playoffs. Major changes will be called for during the offseason.
