Broncos vs. Cardinals: TV Schedule, Live Stream, Radio, Game Time and More

Brian MaziqueMay 31, 2018

Peyton Manning showed Denver Broncos fans more of what they expected from the future Hall of Famer against the San Francisco 49ers. After struggling in the Broncos' first two preseason games, Manning rebounded to go 10-of-12 for 122 yards and two touchdowns.

The Broncos lost the game, but Manning only played in the first half, and the outcome of a preseason game isn't as important as the progress shown.

There is no doubt Manning showed significant progress.

He was 20-of-30 with no touchdowns and three interceptions through the first two preseason games. Things are as right as can be expected, as Manning isn't likely to see action in the final preseason tilt.

The Cardinals' QB situation isn't pretty. John Skelton seems to have won the job by default because Kevin Kolb has looked terrible thus far in the preseason.

He is 22-of-37 with a touchdown and three interceptions in four preseason games. Skelton hasn't been much better with these stats: 14-of-25 with one touchdown and two interceptions. But he has looked far more comfortable under center.

There could be some truth to what Tommy Kelly of the Oakland Raiders said about Kolb. After the Raiders battled the Cardinals in Week 3 of the preseason, Kelly said this of Kolb, per Mike Sando of ESPN, who tweeted:

"

Tommy Kelly runs off field and says of Kolb: "That boy's scared." This according to Raiders preseason TV team.

— Mike Sando, ESPN.com (@espn_nfcwest) August 18, 2012"

Former Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner didn't have a ringing endorsement for Kolb, either. Warner said this of Kolb to Dan Bickley of Arizona Republic:

"

I see the same thing I saw last year. I see a guy who hasn't been able to grasp the system enough to slow the game down, or he doesn't have confidence in what he's seeing.

Maybe he understands what the offense is asking him to do, but the game is going too fast, and he's not pulling the trigger.

"

Things aren't looking good for the Cardinals at QB, and that means the season itself will have a lowered ceiling.

What They're Saying

Per Kent Somers of Arizona Central, the Cardinals will start rookie QB Ryan Lindley against the Broncos. This was Lindley's response and reaction to getting the start in the final preseason game:

"

I know for Kevin and John, there's not a whole lot they are going to get out of this last game. I'm excited for the opportunity and I'm just looking forward to getting out there and showing my stuff.

"

The Cardinals' QB situation is in such disarray, you never know what can happen as the season progresses. One injury and a dose of poor play from Kolb or Skelton could put Lindley under center.

After the Broncos cut 12 players on Monday, head coach John Fox said this of the dismissal of running back Xavier Omon, per Tim Lynch of broncostalk.net:

“Unfortunately, you can’t keep 10 of them(running backs). I like Xavier. He’s a great kid, gave great effort.”

Omon will probably catch on for another team. He made a solid account of himself in three preseason games. He rushed for 36 yards and one touchdown, but he only received significant playing time in the preseason opener.

Players to Watch

Arizona Cardinals, Ryan Lindley

Lindley will not be in position to leapfrog Skelton or Kolb on the depth chart with a strong performance. But with the two veterans looking underwhelming thus far, a good game for the rookie would definitely put something on the minds of coaches and fans.

Denver Broncos, Caleb Hanie

Obviously, Manning is the man in Denver, but there are still questions about his neck. Hanie needs to continue to show himself to be a capable backup option.

There is no Tim Tebow to save them this season if the wheels come off.

Key Matchups

In the final preseason game where very few key players are seeing time, the key matchups are difficult to find.

The primary focus in this game is to keep players healthy, so the training staffs will be the most important aspects of both teams.

Prediction

The Cardinals will likely take this game, in my opinion. I have a feeling Lindley is going to look sharp.

I think he'll shine against the Broncos' second- and third-string defenses. It won't be anything to overreact to, but with the bar so low, any positive play from a Cardinals QB will inspire hope.

My prediction: Cardinals 27, Broncos 14
