WWE: Is Kane Being Overlooked?

Michael GuadalupeAug 28, 2012

Kane was a monster when he first debuted.  He would battle against his brother, The Undertaker, and run wild through the WWE.

Kane isn't that same monster anymore.

He still has the ability to be a destructive force in the WWE, but he is being overlooked.  Why bring the Big Red Monster back with his mask, only to lose?  He's lost to Cena, Orton, Daniel Bryan, and even been thrown around by the Big Show since dawning the mask again.

Kane has the potential to be a monster heel, but the WWE keeps overlooking him.

At this point, Zack Ryder is the only one who really needs to be afraid of Kane.

The Monster

Kane debuted in WWE and was set up to be a monster.  Interrupting the first Hell in a Cell match, which was between his "brother" the Undertaker and Shawn Michaels, Kane would prove he was a new destructive force.

He would cost the Undertaker the match, tombstoning him in the middle of the ring.

This would also begin a feud Kane would have with the Undertaker that would last for a couple of years.  One match these two had, for example, was an Inferno match in 1999.

Kane debuted as a monster, but when he started to derail is open for argument.  Maybe it’s when he decided to shed the mask, or perhaps it was after his World Heavyweight title run. But regardless, the Big Red Monster stopped being a monster.

Eventually Kane would re-debut as his masked former self, but he still wouldn’t be pushed by the WWE as the monster he was.  Sure, Kane gave Cena a hard time when he returned, but once Cena beat him, the monster-heel appeal disappeared.

He would return and have meaningless feuds with Cena, and then with Randy Orton.  Kane would end up losing both those feuds in the end, and the one wrestler who felt Kane's wrath would be Zack Ryder.

The WWE clearly overlooked Kane as he made his return as a Masked Monster.  With so much history and experience behind him, why wasn't he used like a monster heel? Kane needed to be a force of destruction like he was when he began. Instead, he was overlooked and booked to lose to some of the top faces in the WWE.

The Other Brother of Destruction

With Kane set up as the Undertaker's brother, it's hard to believe that the WWE doesn't utilize him more.  The Undertaker seems to be pretty limited in making appearances now.

Why not use Kane to fill his place?  Why not use Kane like the Undertaker was used years ago?  Taker was a full-time main-event wrestler, and while he may no longer be full time, he is still a main-eventer.

Kane could easily fill in the role of a destructive force like the Undertaker used to be, and he would be able to do it on a full-time schedule.

Kane is his "brother" after all, so he already has the credibility to be as much of a threat as the Undertaker used to be.

Could anyone ever replace the Undertaker?  More than likely not, but the WWE is missing out on a huge opportunity by not using Kane on the same level that the Undertaker was used through the late 90s and early 2000s.

Wrestling Ability

The one area where Kane is not being overlooked is his wrestling ability.  Kane is a solid wrestler, which is why we've seen him in feuds with Cena, Orton and even thrown into the WWE Championship scene this year.

Kane has also been in ladder, casket and inferno matches.  He is an experienced wrestler, and the WWE utilized him so far this year by placing him against top wrestlers who needed a quick match for a pay-per-view.

Orton vs. Kane, for example, was a thrown together match, and the WWE needed an opponent for Orton at WrestleMania.  Who better than the experienced Kane?

The same thing happened more recently to Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam.  After being taken out of the championship picture, he was put in a match against Kane at SummerSlam, so the WWE could still use Bryan's name on the card and so they would still have a solid matchup with Bryan vs. Kane.

The WWE might not overlook Kane's wrestling ability, but they use it in the wrong way?  Should Kane be a factor in the championship scene?  That's debatable, but he should still be used in stronger build-ups of matches, instead of being thrown in last minute to ensure the WWE has a match for some of their other wrestlers at pay-per-view events.

If the WWE wanted a monster heel, why did they not focus on Kane?  Sure, bringing Brock Lesnar back and making him a monster heel is a huge draw. But with his limited schedule, and momentum Lesnar builds is lost when he leaves.

Kane is a full-time wrestler with years of experience behind him.  He also has a background in the WWE that should be used to push him into monster heel status.

Yes, Kane is big and wears a scary mask.  Unfortunately, it’s not enough to be consider Kane a monster heel.  With his solid wrestling ability, his character story and his years of experience, it's hard to understand why the WWE is overlooking Kane and not setting him up to be the monster he can be.

We need the Big Red Machine to be a destructive force in the WWE Universe.  He needs to wreak havoc on everyone, not just Zack Ryder.
