5 Awesome NHL Goal Songs
They have become a staple of NHL arenas for years.
After the home team scores a goal, there is a song that accompanies the players and the fans celebrating wildly in their seats.
I have personally been witness to this in Chicago and Toronto, two fantastic hockey markets. When the home team scores and the song plays, fans and players alike love it.
In the following slides, I give you my picks for 5 awesome NHL goal songs. Enjoy!
Toronto Maple Leafs: "The Whip"
1 of 5The Leafs start off this slideshow with their song "The Whip" by Locksley.
A distinct change from their previous song, "The Whip" captures the free wheeling spirit of Leafs fans when they score a goal and win a game.
It is a perfect song for the loud, rambunctious Toronto fans, who need something to cheer about.
There's nothing better than Phil Kessel dangling and scoring a beauty goal, then having the Air Canada Centre erupt as "The Whip" plays loud and proud.
New York Rangers: "Slapshot"
2 of 5Next up, you have the iconic New York Rangers song "Slapshot".
This song was created specifically for the Rangers by Ray Castoldi. He did a wonderful job, as the song pumps up the crowd and gets the players amped up for their next shift.
It is always a treat to hear "Slapshot" blare from the speakers at the Garden when the Rangers light the lamp.
Pittsburgh Penguins: Song 2 by Blur
3 of 5This is a very widely used song in sports. As a UFC fan, whenever I watch Michael Bisping walk out, you can bet "Song 2" is blasting away.
It's also been done very successfully in hockey with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Whenever one of their players snipes a goal, you better believe the fans know what's coming.
"Song 2" blasts through the entire arena and energizes the entire crowd. The best news for Pens fans?
With Crosby, Malkin, Neal and Letang on your team, you're most likely going to hear a lot of that song this coming year.
LA Kings: "I Love LA"
4 of 5Randy Newman's "I Love LA" has become almost a cult song at the Staples Center.
Whenever the Los Angeles Kings score a goal, "I Love LA" starts up; when Newman's lyrics are finished, a rock song comes on to finish up the celebration.
The LA fans certainly love it, and the moment must have been made ever sweeter when they heard it during the Kings Stanley Cup victory over the Devils in game 6 at home.
Now if only the Leafs could do something like that.
Chicago Blackhawks: Chelsea Dagger
5 of 5The Blackhawks got it 100 percent right with this song.
This song, in my opinion, is the best in the NHL today. It's short, creative and catchy; the fans in the Windy City love it.
I was fortunate enough to go to Chicago for a game. They won 3-2, and I have never seen a crowd react to a song like they did.
They were loud and proud. I was high-fived by at least 8 different people. They didn't know me and I didn't know them.
But as soon as Chelsea Dagger comes on, everyone is your friend and it's time to celebrate.
