2012 NFL Fantasy Football Running Back Rankings: Top 75 RBs (Updated 8/26)
The third week of the preseason is winding down and that means it’s time to make final adjustments before draft day. There is one player we need to keep an eye on after Saturday’s exhibition games and that is Kevin Smith of the Lions.
Kevin Smith Re-Injures Ankle
Well, I tried to give Kevin Smith credit this off-season and while we knew an injury was bound to happen with this guy, it’s a good thing it came Week 3 of the preseason. Smith is a survivor and a warrior so I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s starting Week 1 in a tasty matchup against the Rams.

Still, his recent ankle injury (the same one he had a high ankle sprain on last November) is a concern, and while it’s not considered a high ankle sprain, it should slow him down.
With Jahvid Best still yet to receive clearance from his concussion problems, it’s clear that Smith will have the job for the early going of the season. Those of you that are hoping Mikel Leshoure will step up after his two-game suspension shouldn’t hold your breath.
Leshoure looked pathetic against the Raiders. Let’s face it, the kid is coming off an Achilles injury that cost him all of last season and has had very little preseason action.
It’s going to take him some time to get his game back and get a feel for the NFL game speed. Don’t expect Leshoure to overtake Smith as the starter anytime soon.
That basically means Smith will hold onto the starting job for most of the year, when he can actually stay on the field.
Also, expect a lot of passing from Stafford this season.
