Little League World Series 2012 Results: Why US Champion Will Win It All
In the United States' final, Tennessee outscored California 24-16, advancing to the championship game of the Little League World Series to face Japan.
Tennessee's victory over California was no easy task as the California squad battled back from a huge deficit to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Down a whopping 10 runs, California put a 10-spot up on the scoreboard to tie the game at 15. However, Tennessee's bats proved to be too much in the end as the Southeast representatives would go on to score nine runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead and ultimately, the game.
Japan will have their hands full trying to shut down Tennessee's offense. In the end, Tennessee might be too difficult to stop.
The Southeast squad has scored a ton of runs in the four games that led to their championship showdown with Japan: 49 to be exact. By comparison, Japan has scored only 21 runs in their march to the Little League World Series final.
Tennessee has eight hitters batting .400 or better and their 12 homers are tops in the tournament. As a team, Tennessee is hitting an incredible .421 which is also good for the best in the tournament.
Brock Myers, who is the team's best power hitter, has four homers; the most by any player. His .625 batting average is fourth best. In all, Tennessee has three hitters in the top ten in average and homers, and four in the top 10 in RBI as well.
Japan does have stellar pitching, having only allowed two earned runs in the entire tournament; but they have yet to face an offense like Tennessee's. Not to mention, Tennessee has the kind of pitching that can hang with Japan's.
It's only a matter of time before Japan's pitching has a let down and it seems a perfect storm is brewing for that to happen with the international representative having to face the most difficult opposing lineup yet.
While the pitching staffs of both teams can be compared on some levels, their offenses cannot on any level and that's why Tennessee will be the 2012 Little League World Series champions.
