Barclays 2012: Day 2 Leaderboard Updates, Highlights and More
The leaderboard underwent major changes during the second round of the The Barclays at Bethpage State Park in Long Island, New York.
Padraig Harrington had the lead after Round 1, but he plummeted down the standings due to a rash of bogeys on the back-nine and now sits at three-under par.
Nick Watney and Sergio Garcia both followed solid first-round performances with excellent showings today, and they share the lead at eight-under. Vijay Singh, Bob Ester are lurking dangerously at seven-under.
Tiger Woods was clearly in pain as he traveled through the course in New York, but managed to put together an impressive round and has a score of five-under.
The cut was set at one-over par and notable names who did not make it to the weekend include Webb Simpson, Jim Furyk and Graeme McDowell.
Here is how the top of the leaderboard looks.

Highlights
Nick Watney's second-round performance took off when he gained the lead with this eagle on the fourth hole. This was one of several holes that Watney put himself in excellent position then cooly sank a routine put.
Sergio Garcia positioned himself as one of Watney's biggest threats with shots like this one for birdie on the second. This spectacular shot certainly set the tone for Garcia's day.
Twitter Reaction
USA Today's Steve DiMeglio did his best to warn people of unexpected visitors on the 18th hole at Bethpage. This definitely added meaning to the word hazard.
"Left of 18th green is NO GOOD. And DANGEROUS. Beehive roped off ... bees hovering all over the bunker. Serious hazard.
— Steve DiMeglio (@Steve_DiMeglio) August 24, 2012"
Jason Sobel of the Golf Channel saw both the past and the future in Tiger Woods today—the golfer gritting his teeth and making his way through the course.
"Tiger Woods just hit a shot like a 21-year-old Tiger then bent down to pick up his tee like a 91-year-old Tiger.
— Jason Sobel (@JasonSobelGC) August 24, 2012"
PGATour.com's Bill Cooney discovered the source of Woods' pain, and that Tiger has a simple solution to ensure that he is ready to go on the weekend.
"Tiger Woods said he hurt his back while sleeping last night on soft hotel bed. Also says he will sleep on the floor tonight. #FedExCup
— Bill Cooney (@BillCooney4653) August 24, 2012"
Watney's eagle on the fourth hole drew all caps from former Saturday Night Live cast member Norm MacDonald. This was one of the more enthusiastic tweets from MacDonald, who will likely suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome by the end of the weekend if he continues his current Twitter activity during The Barclays.
"NICK WATNEY EAGLES THE 4TH!!!!!!!!!!
