Manchester United Transfer Report: No More Buying for United, Says Ferguson

Dan TalintyreAug 24, 2012

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has closed the Red Devils' summer transfer window a couple of days early. The Scot announced that the club definitely won't be buying any new players before the deadline closes at the end of the month.

United have had a strong transfer summer, acquiring new talent right across the pitch, and were rumored to be interested in a few players before the window closed. However, according to the Red Devils manager, that is not the case (via the Daily Mirror):

"

We definitely won't be buying anyone else, that's for sure.

There is no movement I can tell you about, to be honest with you. There is only a few days left now until the deadline, and that will pass quite quickly I would imagine.

The Red Devils have picked up five players this summer—Shinji Kagawa, Nick Powell, Alexander Buttner, Angelo Henriquez and Robin van Persie—and now boast one of the strongest squads in the English Premier League.

The club have shown that Old Trafford still has the same pull and allure that it always has, and that quality players still want to come to Manchester United over several other clubs.

What's perhaps most important to note about what Ferguson said is that there is "no movement," which suggests no players will be coming or going from the club this summer.

That means the likes of Javier Hernandez, Dimitar Berbatov and Nani all look likely to stay on at Manchester United for the 2012-13 English Premier League season.

This is good news for United, considering that the Red Devils are competing in several competitions this year. Having the deepest and strongest squad possible is the ultimate goal.

Retaining the likes of Hernandez and Nani is key for that to happen.

Should Ferguson's word be true and not simply a guise for more discrete transfer dealings, you'd have to say this has been one of the strongest United transfer windows in recent history. The additions of Kagawa and Van Persie are huge bonuses, as is the signing of Buttner, who could turn out to be one of the surprise stars in the EPL this year.

However, for all the club's purchases, the Red Devils haven't lost any key players this summer—and that's the biggest bonus for this team. United have kept their quality players and their best squad, giving them every chance at toppling their noisy neighbors and clinching the 2012-13 English Premier League title.

Shinji Kagawa and Robin van Persie for Park Ji-Sung and Michael Owen?

Sounds like a good summer to me.
