Chelsea and Wigan Athletic Reach Transfer Agreement for Victor Moses

Ryan DayAug 23, 2012

With a little over a week left in August and the summer transfer window slamming shut, Chelsea is determined to win "king of the hill" in England's transfer market.

Their latest victory? Wigan Athletic—or should I say former Wigan Athletic?—midfielder Victor Moses.

According to a statement on WiganLatics.co.uk, Wigan's official website, the cash-strapped and relegation-threatened club have finally agreed to sell Moses:

The club can confirm that after four unsuccessful bids from Chelsea for Victor Moses, a fifth bid has today finally met the valuation and terms set by Wigan Athletic and been accepted. The player has been given permission to speak with Chelsea.

Chelsea's near £100 million summer has included the signing of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Marko Marin. If right-back Cesar Azpilicueta leaves Marseille and the Blues can finish contract negotiations quickly with Moses, the Blues won't just be favorites to win England's Premier League, but Europe's Champions League.

One question remains, however—if and when Moses arrives at Stamford Bridge, where will Di Matteo slot him? Will Juan Mata be benched with Oscar and Ramires sharing time on the right side, or will Chelsea's manager instead have a revolving door of attacking midfielders, keeping things fresh on offense for his team's grueling league fixtures and upcoming Champions League campaign?

Whatever the answer, all signs point to Di Matteo's men doing well. Chelsea are currently atop the league table with two victories, six points and a four-goal advantage.
