Sacramento Kings Reportedly Eyeing Move to Virginia Beach

Adam WellsJun 1, 2018

Remember all that talk earlier this year about the Sacramento Kings loving Sacramento and not looking to move anywhere?

That may not be the case anymore, though there are conflicting reports on what the future holds for the Kings franchise.

According to a report from Philip Newswanger and Bill Cresenzo of the Hampton Roads Business Journal, the Maloof brothers are headed to Virginia Beach to "propose moving the team to the resort city and for Comcast to help build and lease a new pro sports arena."

However, Rob McAllister of KFBK Radio in Sacramento reported that nothing is happening with the Kings right now:

"

Sources tell me the #SacKings to Virginia Beach is not in the works even though the Biz Journal there says anouncement coming next week

— Rob McAllister (@Rob_McAllister) August 23, 2012"

McAllister also reported that the spokesman for the Maloof brothers has not talked to them about anything involving a move to Virginia Beach:

"

Maloof's spokesman Eric Rose told me he had not spoken to the Kings owners about Va Beach rumor yet. #KingsAllDay #NBA

Clearly, there are mixed signals going around the Kings right now.

Joe Maloof spoke to reporters shortly after the rumors started, telling CBS 13 in Sacramento that "We haven’t talked to Virginia Beach."

We have all heard the rumors and reports about the Maloof brothers trying to take the team out of Sacramento because of issues with the arena. The Kings have not had much success in Sacramento, but a lot of that can be attributed to the fact that the team has not been competitive for a long time.

No one ever knows what the Maloof brothers are thinking, which tends to make what the Kings do off the court far more interesting than anything they do on the court.

We will keep you up to date on the situation as more information becomes available. Check back to this page for all the latest about the Kings.
