Little League World Series 2012: Previewing Day 8 Action

Ian HanfordJun 7, 2018

Seven days of Little League World Series action are gone, and the world's best young players haven't disappointed so far. We've seen home runs, excellent defense and one no-hitter in South Williamsport, Pa. so far.

Day 8 of action will only feature two games, but they are important. The final spots in the U.S. and international championships are up for grabs, and teams haven't come this far to simply roll over.

Let's take a look at both games coming your way from Central Pennsylvania on Thursday.

Mexico vs. Panama

These two teams will fight for the right to face Japan in the international championship on Saturday. Panama lost to Japan 4-1 on Wednesday, and they would love nothing more than to get another shot.

Mexico suffered a tough opening game loss to Canada, but bounced back with three consecutive victories over Uganda, Chinese Taipei and Curacao to get here. Their team has been paced by the likes of Eduardo Mata and Enrique Penaloza.

Panama, besides the loss to Japan, defeated Uganda and Canada. They are in a good position to move on because of their balanced attack on defense and offense.

This game will be tight, and both teams will have their hands full against Japan. Make sure you tune in to see who will move on to the weekend's action.

Texas vs. California

This was almost Tennessee instead of Texas, but the boys from Goodlettsville, Tenn. broke San Antonio's heart in the final inning of their contest Wednesday night.

Now these two teams will battle it out for a spot in the U.S. championship on Saturday.

California started the tournament off right by beating Connecticut in their first game, but then lost to now-undefeated Tennessee 9-6. Their victories over New Jersey and Connecticut, for the second time, earned them a spot in this game.

Texas beat New Jersey and Indiana before their loss Wednesday night. They're averaging seven runs a game, and their offense will match California's deep lineup.

Both of these games are well worth your attention. All four teams on Thursday will bring it from both sides, and none of these kids are ready to be done playing.
