WWE: This Is Crazy? AJ Lee's Boring Run as GM

AJ Lee as the Raw General Manager has been a flop.

It’s not an embarrassing failure, but it has committed the crime of taking one of the most fun characters in WWE and making her, well, boring.

AJ, you restarted the match between Big Show, Punk and Cena after a controversial finish? Stop it! You’re out of control! This power has gone to your head! Oh wait, that’s exactly what every babyface GM the WWE has ever had would have done.

I get it; she doesn’t like to be called “crazy.”  She now wears dress suits. That seems to be all WWE creative has come up with so far for her.

To begin with, the introduction of her as Raw GM left a gaping hole in logic. The mysterious board of directors has been involved with management decisions previously. They voted Mr. McMahon out of power, replaced him with Triple H, and also got rid of John Laurinaitis.

So why would they then put AJ in charge?

In no time in her run did she show herself to be qualified for the position in any way. Unless the board of directors is trying to run the company out of business, their decision to put her in charge was questionable to say the least.

But lucky for them, she has been a relatively safe choice. Besides booking Jericho in a match where he was fired, she really hasn’t done anything of note.

Most importantly, why does she book the show the same way as previous General Managers have?

What happened to the girl in the Kane mask skipping around the ring? The girl who messed with Bryan, Kane and Punk just for fun?

She was unpredictable before, but painfully predictable now.

When Otunga accidentally called her crazy (which is already played out), is there anyone who didn’t know his special opponent would be The Big Show?

If she is such a “crazy chick” why doesn’t she give us some crazy matches?  Why not Zach Ryder vs. Kane in a squirt gun fight, Daniel Bryan vs. Doink, Dink, Wink and Pink in a Hell in a Cell match, or herself vs. CM Punk for the WWE Championship in a monster truck race?

Now that would be crazy.

She could run the show as a tyrant who you would never know what she would do next. Yes, those are extreme examples, but her character should have shaken up the tone of the show. But her run has been so lazily constructed that it’s doing damage to her character.

WWE lucked into AJ as a compelling character. But they’re quickly overexposing her in throwaway GM segments. 

Unless WWE is committed to doing something different with her run, they should return her to a regular character as soon as possible.  

The only surprising part of her as GM, is how quickly it took to become boring.
