Larry Brooks, writing in the New York Post, said, "Tortorella is the antithesis of Renney. One is fire, the other is ice. One is four-letter words—again: take it from me—and the other is complex sentences. One comes off streetwise, the other comes off professorial."
Arthur Staple, writing in Newsday called him the new sheriff in town and said he is aggressive, blunt-speaking, and the polar opposite of Renney.
Newsday used the term “fire and brimstone” in a feature about Tortorella. The article was about whether or not he is a hothead.
CBCsports.ca describes John Tortorella as a man of strong conviction, not afraid to do things the way he feels is right, no matter what people say about him.
This is the guy who swore live last year on CBC TV!
Tortorella is famous for despising The Quiz on TSN. He has said the questions he is being asked are stupid.
When Sean Avery got suspended for something he said on TV, Tortorella ranted about Avery on TSN, reportedly saying, "The league stepped up here and I think they did the right thing. Enough is enough. He's embarrassed himself, he's embarrassed the organization and he’s embarrassed the league and he's embarrassed his teammates, who have to look out for him.Send him home. He doesn't belong in the league."
Sean Avery was sent to anger management.
John Tortorella was hired as the coach of the New York Rangers. The Rangers General Manager, Glen Sather, has made it clear he is interested in getting Avery for the Rangers this year.
When Avery and Tortorella are on the same team, the Rangers will see who needs anger management!
