Roger Federer: Predictions for Swiss Star at 2012 US Open

Alex KayJun 7, 2018

Roger Federer is gearing up to compete in his 15th U.S. Open, and the Swiss superstar is once again a favorite to win it all.

Without Rafael Nadal, it’s likely that the 2012 U.S. Open comes down to two players—Federer and Novak Djokovic.

No one else is going to be in contention with the exception of these men, unless an absolute miracle takes place.

The finals clash is destined to happen and the organizers of the event made sure of it.

Federer was bestowed the No. 1 seed, while Djokovic earned the No. 2. Andy Murray, David Ferrer and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga round out the top five.

While occasionally a wild card like Juan Martin del Potro can break through and pull out an unforeseen victory at a Grand Slam, no one—with the exception of del Potro in 2009—aside from Federer, Djokovic and Nadal has won the U.S. Open Trophy at Billie Jean King National Tennis Center since 2004.

With Nadal out of the picture, it will be Djokovic and Federer running through the early stages without a hitch, perhaps having some trouble in the quarterfinals and winning tough semifinal matches to get into the championship.

From there, the Swiss star will use his guile and cunning to knock the current titleholder—Djokovic—from his perch.

Expect an epic back-and-forth battle between the most experienced and decorated man on the tennis circuit and the upcoming young gun looking to begin a new era in the sport.

However, Federer is simply a superior talent and will prove—once again—that he is the best tennis player of all time.
