WWE News: Update on Charlie Sheen/Daniel Bryan Storyline, Will It Continue?

Sharon GlencrossAug 22, 2012

In recent weeks, speculation has been swirling around about the current state of the Charlie Sheen/WWE relationship.

As most will know, the Anger Management star appeared via Skype on Raw's 1,000th episode as a guest commentator. Appearing sporadically throughout the show, he took jabs at WWE star Daniel Bryan, and a confrontation between the two at the SummerSlam pay-per-view was heavily teased.

WWE, presumably building up for Sheen's appearance, then started a storyline in which Bryan and, later, his storyline foe were presented as having severe anger management issues, tying in with the actor's new FX show.

According to a F4W Newsletter, the company was extremely excited for the angle, feeling Sheen was one of the biggest celebrities they'd ever landed for an appearance and expecting huge mainstream press for the angle at the PPV.

Of course, after a few weeks, all mentions of Sheen were dropped from WWE programming, and the star did not appear at the SummerSlam event after all.

Nonetheless, the anger management angle continues, with GM AJ Lee even announcing on Monday she was sending Bryan to anger management classes to deal with his inner rage.

So what's going on?

In this week's (subscribers-only) F4W Newsletter, Bryan Alvarez gives an update on the angle, noting that while Sheen initially agreed to make an appearance at SummerSlam, he later dropped out:

"

According to those in WWE, the situation with Charlie Sheen is that around the time that he agreed to be WWE's social media Twitter ambassador for Raw 1,000 he verbally agreed to appear at SummerSlam since the show was in Los Angeles. About two weeks later he backed out, believed to be due to scheduling issues.

"

Alvarez then notes that the Sheen/WWE relationship may not be entirely done: "As of press time, his eventual involvement is not considered a dead issue."

This is an interesting situation.

While WWE may be unwilling to drop the current Kane/Bryan storyline, presumably feeling they can snag Sheen at some point and get him to commit to a few appearances, it remains to be seen whether the company should be wasting valuable time and resources attempting to court the notoriously unreliable and fickle actor.
