Madden 13: Tips, Cheats, Roster Updates and Review

With the early release of Madden 13, every NFL fan has been launched into a frenzy over the hottest video game of 2012. The Madden fans have come out of the woodwork for this launch.

Every year around this time, the excitement over one of best game franchises in history boils up and culminates with the beginning of the NFL season. It’s a joyous marriage that has kept video-game addicts on the couch for far too many hours.

The love for NFL football in America is only matched by the love of video games, so when these two meet each year in a reality-twisting experience on our TVs, the fans can’t help but get excited.

Somewhere, a Cleveland Browns fan can’t wait to trade Colt McCoy for Aaron Rodgers.

Tips

Stick With One Team

If you love online play as much as the rest of us, it is imperative that you find a comfort zone for your style. With that in mind, it’s always better to find a team that fits your schemes and mindset and to stick with them.

When you practice before your online league matchups, use the same team you always do and configure them to your liking. You can play with any team you like, but if you want to get good and become a Madden star, you need to master one team.

Play to Your Strengths

No matter what team you use—whether it is just one team or whichever team you like at that moment—find out what that squad does well and build off that.

Don’t pick the Green Bay Packers and try to run the ball down anyone’s throat; that won’t happen. With a plan of attack and knowing the personnel on your team, there is no doubt that you can put yourself into a position to win.

While some may not take Madden serious, this game is a badge of honor amongst many friends and families.

Cheats

While no cheats or codes are available as of publishing this piece, Madden 2012 had an unlockable team that was considered a cheat by many fans: the now infamous Madden Developer Team (99 Stats).

It is still unclear if the Madden 13 developers also infused themselves into this game, but if they did, this team can be the ultimate weapon.

As you begin the game, tell your friend to look away for a second and select the developer’s team, then explain how they are a minor league team and laugh all the way to the bank.

First Roster Update Names to Watch

Chad Ochocinco (as it appears in game)—After an arrest, the Miami Dolphins made short work of their Chad Johnson experiment by cutting the wide receiver loose. With the first roster update, the nine Dolphins fans can say goodbye to the forlorn star.

Cedric Benson—With the Green Bay Packers making a major splash by signing running back Cedric Benson, the feeling around the league is that this makes the team much better. As if the talented squad needed any improvements, the first roster update will show the strong getting stronger.

Terrell Owens—Despite dropping a few passes—something that is not new to the veteran wide receiver—the Seattle Seahawks need his big play ability and speed on the outside. While his rating is anyone’s guess, if he makes the Seahawks regular-season roster, he will be a huge name on the first update.

Game Review

Biggest Change: Improved Presentation

While Madden has always been at the forefront of pushing the boundaries with visual effects, this year’s game has taken the simulation feel to an all new level.

From the announcers to the opening sequence of the game, EA Sports has spared no expense in giving the gamer the most realistic feeling game they possibly could.

With improved physics throughout the game, the replays take on a new life as they look as realistic as they ever have. Add in the improved cut scenes and visuals, and the improvements in this game are amazing.

New Feature to Watch: Total Control Passing

With the obvious shift in the NFL from a run-first offense like we saw for so many years to the pass-happy league we have now, the Madden 13 designers realized that a heavy portion of their efforts should be put into improving the passing game.

Hence, Madden fans now have Total Control Passing.

While subtle improvements like pump-faking and deep-pass accuracy will make the hardcore gamer much happier, even the most casual Madden fans will enjoy how realistic the passing game has become.
