Making a Case for Brian Robiskie

VJ GidariFeb 26, 2009

New York Giants fans, forget about Derrius Hayward-Bey or Michael Crabtree. There is a cheaper and smarter alternative waiting for you in the second or possibly third round. His name is Brian Robiskie and he'll contribute right away at wide receiver.

Jerry Reese has not drafted a wide receiver in the first round. It was not a high priority need with No. 17 Plaxico Burress holding down the No. 1 spot. However, you are all aware of his downward spiral capitalized by the Giants' recent playoff loss in the 2009 Divisional Round.

Steve Smith (a former second-round pick) has developed nicely as a No. 2 receiver for the Giants. However, like the rest of the Giants offense, help is needed. Enter Brian Robiskie out of 'The Ohio State'.

He stands 6'3", weighs around 200 pounds with definite room for development and his body of work at Ohio State was also quite impressive. These are his statistics from the 2006-2008 seasons via ESPN.com.

  • 2006: 29 receptions, 383 yards, 13.2 yards per catch, and 5 touchdowns
  • 2007: 55 receptions, 935 yards, 17.0 yards per catch, and 11 TD's
  • 2008: 42 receptions, 535 yards, 12.7 yards per catch, and 8 TD's

Clearly, Robiskie has the numbers to prove that he can produce at WR, especially as a No. 3 or No. 4 where he'll be slotted with the Giants in the short term.

On a final note, I wanted to emphasize his character and upbringing. He is the son of Terry Robiskie, who was a former NFL wide receiver and current receivers coach of the Atlanta Falcons. Robiskie Sr. has attended the combines and worked actively in preparing his son for the rigors of the NFL game.

Brian Robiskie, in my opinion, cannot bust. According to scouts, he has David Boston potential, but I see more Anthony Gonzalez (the former Buckeye). Jerry Reese will covet his attitude, physical abilities, and potential. It would be easy to root for this kid.

For people who want to deny Robiskie's big play ability, hope you enjoy this video.
