Little League World Series 2012 Scores: Monday Winners Sure to Make a Deep Run

Patrick ClarkeJun 2, 2018

There were a number of intriguing results at the 2012 Little League World Series on Monday from Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

A pair of United States squads added another win to their records, while an international team from south of the border managed to impress yet again.

Here we break down a trio of Monday winners at the LLWS that look poised to make a deep run this summer.

Petaluma, California - West

The West region representatives have been under pressure all tournament long to follow in Huntington Beach's footsteps in 2012. The California-based team won the LLWS in 2011, and now Petaluma will look to bring the hardware back to the West Coast once again. There's no reason why they can't, considering how strong they've been on both sides of the ball.

After a tough loss to Goodlettsville, Tennessee, on Sunday, Petaluma bounced right back with an impressive 5-4 win over Parsippany, New Jersey, of the Mid-Atlantic region on Monday. Both teams were 1-1 coming into the game, but Petaluma kept its hopes of making a deep run alive with the narrow, clutch win.

Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas - Mexico

Outside of Japan and Panama, there doesn't seem to be an international lineup as talented as Mexico's. The team from Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, topped Taoyuan, Chinese Taipei, by a score of 4-3 on Monday, bringing its record to 2-1 at the LLWS. Although Japan has yet to give up a run in two games, Mexico certainly boasts the hitters to contend with the team from Tokyo.

In Nuevo Laredo's only loss to Canada, it still posted nine runs. The Mexicans even scored 12 runs in their shutout win over Lugazi, Uganda, on Saturday. Those big bats of Nuevo Laredo will take them far this summer, potentially into the International Championship Game and beyond.

Fairfield, Connecticut - New England

The boys from Fairfield, Connecticut, have now won two in a row after shutting out New Castle, Indiana, 4-0 on Monday in Williamsport. The New England regional representatives looked sharp defensively in the win and now promise to be among the last teams standing at the LLWS this August.

After a heart-breaking two-run defeat to Petaluma, California, in its opener, Fairfield has become unstoppable, not allowing a single run in the past two games. Fairfield blanked Kearney, Nebraska, from the Midwest on Saturday, 12-0. Expect Connecticut to make a deep run into the United States Championship Game this weekend as a defensive juggernaut.

Monday's 2012 Little League World Series Scores
