Brock Lesnar: Breaking Down What Makes Lesnar WWE's Secret Weapon

Donald WoodAug 21, 2012

While many fans were skeptical about the return of former NCAA, WWE and UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar to the WWE, it will undoubtedly prove to be a huge success for the company.

With reports of limited dates over the length of the contract (h/t Rajah.com), there were concerns about how Lesnar could be used despite having to miss long periods of time between appearances. This was admittedly foreign territory for the WWE, as seen by the way they handled the star's return match with John Cena.

There is no question that the company mishandled the result of the Extreme Rules match—as Lesnar should have won convincingly not only to build him as a monster but also to continue John Cena’s losing streak and deepen his character—but the WWE redeemed itself with a win for the MMA-inspired character at SummerSlam.

Triple H is a WWE legend, and having Lesnar beat him down in the fashion he did, ultimately forcing him to tap out, returns the former UFC champion back to prominence. The WWE universe can now believe he is a war machine again.

The reason the WWE needs the fans not to only respect the former champion but to fear him is that Brock Lesnar is WWE’s secret weapon for WrestleMania 29.

The Undertaker needs an opponent.

At this point of his career, most of the WWE Universe feels that the Undertaker will never lose at WrestleMania. With that said, it is the job of the people booking to give it their best shot at finding him a viable opponent.

With another possible win over Triple H at Survivor Series (h/t PWInsider via NoDQ), there is no doubt that the man to face the Undertaker should be Lesnar.

Lesnar and the Undertaker have previous beef with each other (see video above), and the WWE could easily build a feud around these two men. With Paul Heyman still in Lesnar’s corner, the battle leading up to this feud needs no special-guest referee or crazy stipulation to be great.

While there may be no one that believes Lesnar will beat the Undertaker at WrestleMania, it will be Lesnar that can brutalize the Undertaker in a way that could convince fans during the match that the impossible could happen on that night.

Lesnar is an absolute war machine in the ring, and the Undertaker needs to fight a star of the highest caliber at this point in his career.

With so many options, Lesnar has become WWE's ultimate secret weapon.
