Will Lucas: Connecticut Pitcher Provides Highlight of LLWS with No-Hitter

Rob GoldbergJun 1, 2018

Will Lucas is only 12 years old, but he has already accomplished one of the great feats in baseball by throwing a no-hitter in the Little League World Series.

Pitching a complete game without allowing the other team to get a hit is impressive at any level. It requires talent, focus and a little bit of luck. Lucas had all of those when he led his Connecticut team to a 4-0 victory over Indiana.

The pitcher even had to overcome an old jinx that you do not discuss a no-hitter during the game. According to ESPN, his teammate Matt Kubel brought it up, to the displeasure of their manager.

This accomplishment highlights everything that is good about the LLWS. In an age where sports are corrupted by overpaid players, greedy owners and performance-enhancing drugs, it is nice to truly be happy for something an athlete does on the field.

When Lucas got the final out, he was mobbed by his teammates in what can only be described as pure euphoria for everyone involved. It was happiness by a bunch of kids playing their favorite game in what could be the highlight of their young lives.

Fans who want to watch sports played at a high level should start taking notice of these little-leaguers. These athletes are the best in the world in their age group, and they should earn more respect for playing so well.

A number of major league players started out in the LLWS, including Jason Bay, Jason Marquis, Colby Rasmus and Gary Sheffield. There could be some players on the current squads that someday make the show as well.

Regardless of his future, Lucas' performance is something that will live on in baseball history. He struck out 13 batters in only six innings of work and thoroughly dominated his competition. Even if his team is eliminated later in the tournament, this game is something that his club and town of Fairfield will remember for a while.

Hopefully, there are many more great games ahead for the youngster.
