Transfer Tracker: Alex Song, Alex Buttner, Kaka, Stevan Jovetic, Michael Owen
One club's deal can sometimes be another club's treasure.
That's the theme in Monday's edition of the B/R Transfer Tracker.
With Barcelona's deal for Alex Song almost complete (obviously, if you've seen the picture above), Arsenal are closing in on a player from Barcelona's biggest rival.
With that same rival closing on a deal for a player from Arsenal's own arch-rival, the unexpected beneficiary might be…
…Manchester United?
It all works out somehow. Read on for the details.
Alex Song to Seal Move
1 of 5Cameroon midfielder Alex Song is expected to complete his £15 million move from Arsenal to Barcelona at 16.00 BST on Monday (BBC Sport). For Americans, that's 11 a.m. ET.
Song is set to be introduced on Tuesday, but as you can see, he's already had pictures taken with Barcelona.
According to BBC Sport, Song's new contract will have a release clause of €80 million. Arsenal are thought to be nearing a season-long loan deal for Real Madrid's Nuri Sahin as a replacement.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is quoted as saying he chose to sell Song because of poor effort in the preseason (Daily Mail).
Manchester United Bag Alexander Buttner
2 of 5Manchester United have signed Dutch left-back Alexander Buttner from Vitesse Arnhem, according to the Dutch club (The Guardian).
The fee is thought to be at least £3.9 million. Buttner, 23, will serve as Patrice Evra's backup.
Kaka Offered to Manchester United on Loan?
3 of 5Real Madrid have offered Brazilian midfielder Kaká to Manchester United on a season-long loan, according to the Daily Mail.
Kaká, 30, would be shipped out in anticipation of Luka Modric's impending arrival from Tottenham Hotspur. Kaká did not play in Real's season-opening 1-1 draw with Valencia on Sunday.
Manchester City After Stevan Jovetic?
4 of 5Manchester City have seen a bid for Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic rejected, according to Italian reports (The Metro).
Jovetic, a 22-year-old Montenegrin international, is valued at around £25 million by Fiorentina. Juventus and Chelsea are also thought to be interested.
City could be in the market for another striker after Sergio Aguero sustained a knee injury during Sunday's season-opening victory over Southampton. According to the Daily Telegraph, Aguero is expected to miss three or four weeks.
Michael Owen to Everton?
5 of 5Former Liverpool hero Michael Owen could be on his way to Everton. According to the Daily Mail, Owen and Everton are in "advanced talks" over a free transfer.
Owen, 32, played for Liverpool from 1996-2004. He was released by Manchester United this summer after a mostly unsuccessful three-year stint.
