Top 200: 2012 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings, Projections (Updated 8/19)
With week two of the preseason almost done, I wanted to talk about one receiver moving up the charts and two QB1 talents who are currently struggling.
Brandon Lloyd A WR1
It’s time to jump on the Brandon Lloyd bandwagon that has been building up over the summer in fantasy circles. Lloyd is a worthy WR1 in a deep class of receivers this year. It is possible that we could see even better overall numbers from Tom Brady as he will pick apart defenses with ease, and with Lloyd inserted as the option over the top, his production could turn him into a top-five receiver in standard leagues.

Still working with Josh McDaniels, Lloyd has a good home and the by far the best quarterback to work with in his career. Look for this veteran to be everything we hoped Chad Ochocinco would be in this offense a year ago as he will have no problems picking up the offense.
Yes, there are a few weapons to share the wealth with so his value is hurt some in PPR leagues, but I point to his upside with Brady and his relatively good health in recent years as reasons to hold him as a firm top 20 on your draft board.
Currently going as the 16th receiver off the board, Lloyd is a solid addition to your team, and if you can some how snag him as a WR3 consider that the kind of steal that can have you walking away from of your competition.
Peyton Manning Struggles
As I’ve been saying throughout the summer, we should target Peyton Manning as more of a late QB1 to early QB2 on draft day. Manning is in a new offense and still working his way back from his neck injury.
His two-interception performance against the Seahawks probably isn’t as bad as it sounds, but you need to have a solid option to start in the early going.
Look to Jay Cutler as a great quarterback to use with Manning. Cutler has a pass-friendly schedule in the first part of the season, and should be in your lineup while Manning plays teams like the Steelers and Texans.
As the season moves along we will probably see Manning look more like the quarterback we remember from Indianapolis.
Philip Rivers Loses Key Receiver
I’m not feeling the Chargers passing game outside of Antonio Gates and maybe Malcom Floyd as a WR4 option. Unfortunately for the Chargers injuries continue to be a problem as star running talent Ryan Mathews may miss the first month and Vincent Brown broke his ankle against the Cowboys.
Brown was having a terrific camp and was pushing Robert Meachem for a starting job.
Meachem will make some plays but don’t expect a breakout season. Too often he fails to fight for the football, and if this doesn’t change, Rivers won’t look his way often.
The offensive line continues to struggle and we have to wonder if Rivers can continue to take the punishment weekly, if this team falls behind in games like they did a year ago.
