Wyndham Championship 2012: Day 4 Suspended Due to Weather

Tim KeeneyJun 7, 2018

The Wyndham Championship is still wide open, and because of the weather at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, it will continue to be wide open until Monday.

The news comes from the PGA Tour's official Twitter account:

"

Lengthy weather delay suspends @wyndhamchamp until 9:00am ET Monday. @golfchannel will carry TV coverage until conclusion. #pgatour

Sergio Garcia is currently the leader at 15-under through four holes on the final round, but it's far from a certainty that he'll walk away from North Carolina with the Sam Snead Cup, which would be his first win of the season—and first top-three finish, at that.

That's because the leaderboard is very crowded at the top.

There are 16 golfers still on the course who are within at least four shots of the Spaniard. Eight who are still on the front nine are within three strokes. Three are just one shot behind.

This is anyone's tournament.

Among the players lurking at 14-under are Tim Clark, Jason Dufner and Bud Cauley. Dufner, who is putting together one of the best seasons on Tour, is likely the most disappointed to see the delay, as he was already two-under through five holes and was looking very strong.

But with the American's spot in the Top 30 of the Fed-Ex Cup Playoff Rankings locked in, it's Garcia who has to continue to sweat for another day.

Garcia currently sits in 102nd place in the rankings, which would qualify him for the Barclays next week but would make it tough to enter the following tournaments.

However, a win at Wyndham projects Garcia to move all the way up to the 33rd place, which would qualify him for all of the Fed-Ex tournaments except the Tour Championship, which only sees the Top 30 advance.

Nonetheless, it would put the Spaniard in very good position to make the prestigious tourney in late September.

So, while the weather not only delays the outcome of Wyndham, it delays Sergio's fate for the rest of the season.
