Mangok Mathaing: Louisville Commit Has Been Cleared Academically

Jon HancockJun 2, 2018

There were a lot of questions when Mangok Mathaing committed to the University of Louisville last month. Mathaing had some hurdles to jump before becoming academically eligible to play the 2012-2013 season. But according to Eric Crawford of WDRB.com, Mathiang has been cleared academically and will begin classes Monday at the University of Louisville.

Mathaing picked Louisville over Georgia, Kansas State, Mississippi State, Auburn and several other schools. The 6'10", 205-lb. center plays at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. He is rated a 3-star prospect by Scout.com.

Rick Pitino will most likely not play the Sudanese big man much this season with so much depth at the power forward and center position. But Pitino is hoping to develop Mathaing into a quality inside presences like he has with junior Gorgui Dieng.

ESPN.com says of Mathaing:

"

"His extra long post moves extremely well and finished inside with either hand on drop steps and displayed excellent body control in addition to being a good weak side shot blocker. Mathiang plays with good energy as well. He is a good area rebounder with length rather than strength."
