He obviously isn't as high-profile an acquisition as Van Persie, but this is the type of move that adds quality support pieces. Buttner seems destined to bolster the left back position for his new club.
Buttner is just 23 years old, but he has already accumulated five years of professional playing experience. In 107 games, Buttner has scored 10 goals.
It seemed Buttner may have been headed to Southampton in a transfer, but that deal didn't come to pass. Per the Daily Mail, Buttner attempted to inject a third-parties offer into the negotiations with Vitesse and Southampton, but Vitesse rebuffed that request.
The disagreement is said to have derailed the completion of that transfer.
Man Utd. is certainly happy things transpired as they did, as it allowed them to swoop in and complete a deal to acquire the young wing-back.
Sir Alex Ferguson has made a splash over the last seven days with his pickups, and the Red Devils are primed to be a major factor in the Premier League again this season.
