Transfer Tracker: Clint Dempsey, Alex Song, Luka Modric, Scott Sinclair, Kaka

Michael CummingsJun 6, 2018

Nothing like the beginning of the season to kick-start a bunch of stagnant transfers.

Or does it just seem that way?

After the English Premier League opened play this weekend, several high-profile transfers appear almost complete. Clint Dempsey (Fulham), Alex Song (Arsenal) and Luka Modric (Tottenham Hotspur) are seemingly on the verge of moving to their new homes, while their old teams are just ready to move on.

Sunday's edition of the B/R Transfer Tracker also has updates on Scott Sinclair, Daniele De Rossi, Adam Johnson, Nuri Sahin and Kaka.

Read on for all the details.

Dempsey Dumps Fulham?

1 of 5

American international Clint Dempsey refused to play for Fulham this weekend, drawing a fine and a rebuke from manager Martin Jol (Daily Telegraph).

Jol called Dempsey an "embarrassment," according to the Telegraph, while the Daily Mail reports that Jol said Dempsey can leave Fulham.

In a separate article, the Daily Mail reckons Liverpool and Arsenal are interested in signing Dempsey.

Dempsey responded to the controversy with two tweets. Read them here and here.

Song on Verge?

With Cameroon midfielder Alex Song on the verge of a transfer to Barcelona, Arsenal are stepping up their interest in Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin (Daily Mail).

Song, 24, is expected to complete a ยฃ15 million transfer to Barcelona this weekend.

Sahin, 23, is available after Real manager Jose Mourinho said Sahin could look elsewhere for first-team football. Arsenal and Liverpool are thought to be interested in a loan move with a view to a permanent transfer.

Modric on Verge?

Another drawn-out transfer saga, Luka Modric's proposed move to Real Madrid could be done this week (Daily Mirror).

Modric, a 26-year-old Croatian midfielder, did not play in Tottenham Hotspur's season-opening loss to Newcastle United on Saturday. He has been linked heavily with a ยฃ30 million (or more) move to Real for months.

City After Sinclair?

4 of 5

Manchester City will move for Swansea City winger Scott Sinclair this week, according to Express.

Meanwhile, City are also stepping up their interest in AS Roma's Italian midfielder Daniele De Rossi.

The latter would seem to indicate the end of Adam Johnson's tenure with the club. The Daily Star is linking Johnson with a ยฃ10 million move to Sunderland.

Galatasaray Could Afford Kaka?

5 of 5

Finally, here's something slightly different.

Galatasaray chairman Unal Aysal has said the Turkish club have the resources to sign Real Madrid's Brazilian midfielder Kakรก (Goal.com).

Kaka, 30, has been linked with a move away from Real in recent weeks. But don't get too excited, Gala fans.

"Galatasaray have the power to buy him, that's not a problem for us," said Aysal. "But I personally think it's very unlikely for Kaka to come to Turkey. So, all the excitement about this topic is exaggerated."

And whose fault might that be?
