"

Vincent Brown will have surgery tomorrow on broken ankle. This is big ... Said one veteran: "He's our best receiver."

The latest news coming out of San Diego isn't good, folks.

"

Vincent Brown has broken ankle. Expected to miss at least eight weeks. That means at least five games, probably.

— UTKevinAcee (@UTKevinAcee) August 19, 2012"

This injury, on the heels of Ryan Matthews' broken collarbone, means that Norv Turner will have to be a bit more creative in his offensive game planning in the beginning of the season. It's never fun losing key players, but losing them like this in the preseason is downright brutal.

--------End of Update--------

According to Chargers beat writer Michael Gehlken:

"

Vincent Brown's right ankle rolled as the defender tackled him onto the ground. Being carted off field.

— Michael Gehlken (@UTgehlken) August 19, 2012"

This isn't great news for the Chargers, as Philip Rivers can ill-afford to lose capable receivers. They are already struggling to work Robert Meachem into the offense since losing Vincent Jackson to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Brown was one of the receivers expected to step up in 2012.

Ankle injuries are notoriously difficult to overcome, and if it's bad enough, Brown could miss a lot of time.

We'll update you with more on this injury as the information becomes available.
