The Doctor's WWE SmackDown Recap: The 107 Things We Learned, Loved and Hated

The Doctor Chris MuellerJun 7, 2018

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to my weekly SmackDown recap list. I always appreciate my loyal readers, but for those of you who are new, each week I recap SmackDown with a long list.

The entries are made up of equal parts observations, humor, recap, play-by-play, revelations, speculations, questions, answers and anything else I notice during the show. I sometimes comment on commercials, too, just because I get bored during them.

I try and interject some fun into these lists, so I hope you have fun reading this week's list of the 122 things we learned, loved and hated from the show.

1. First of all, sorry for the late posting of this recap. Like an idiot, I used my computer without a battery to type this the first time and I knocked out the power source on accident, so I lost the list three-fourths of the way through the show. It was late, so I decided to start over in the morning.
2. I owe the inventor of the DVR a thank you.
3. The show opens with a recap of the Alberto Del Rio/Sheamus feud.
4. ADR comes out with Ricardo Rodriguez at the top of the show.
5. I wonder why Ricky is here if Lilian is doing the intro? Maybe he is just there to take a Brogue Kick.
6. I still think Del Rio would make a great movie villain.
7. Del Rio does the whole "I won't leave until I get my title shot" routine, which brings out Booker T.
8. Book asks why Del Rio has a problem and Del Rio brings up the theft of his car.
9. Chris Jericho comes out to bring some much-needed energy to the segment by telling Del Rio to "Please shut the hell up!"
10. Did Jericho lose a bet, or did he get caught in a fight with a weed whacker?
11. Jericho speaks some Spanish back to Del Rio, saying something mean about Del Rio's breath.
12. Jericho says that maybe he should get a title shot after he beats Ziggler at SummerSlam.
13. Book decides to have them settle their differences in the main event.
14. Props for the Shucky Ducky sign someone made.
15. After the break, we get Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara facing Miz and Cody Rhodes.
16. Rey and Cara should form a tag team for a bit and help the division. They would make an interesting pair.
17. I don't know about anyone else, but the classic IC title design has to be my favorite design of any current title in WWE. It just looks slick.
18. Rhodes says he has a picture of what Sin Cara looks like without his mask, but it is just a ridiculous caricature with huge teeth.
19. Cara gets the early advantage over Rhodes.
20. Rey and Cara hit a pair of high-flying moves on their opponents to get a pop from the crowd.
21. Miz and Rhodes get Cara grounded and start working him over.
22. Rhodes drops Cars on his face before tagging Miz back in.
23. Cody tags back in and tries to remove Cara's mask again.
24. Rey gets the tag and hits a series of signatures on Rhodes.
25. Rhodes tries for the mask of Cara again and this allows Rey to hit the 619 for the pin and the win.

26. Good match. I would have liked to see it go longer with more high spots from the luchadors, but it was decent.
27. After the match, Miz tries to hit Rey with his title, but Rey ends up hitting him with the 619 instead.
28. Hawkins and Reks come out in suits with no music.
29. Please don't strip.
30. Dammit. Avert your eyes, children.
31. Is this PG content?
32. Their new ring gear resembles tiny underwear. At least they didn't let or make them wear thongs. Billy Gunn doing it back in the day still haunts me to this day.
33. Reks and Hawkins do a cool double-team move to win the match.
34. I could not even type during that match because my head was in my hands in disappointment.
35. You will not be seeing these guys on Saturday Morning Slam anytime soon.
36. After the break, we get a video package for the WWE title match at SummerSlam.
37. Eve is shown running into William Regal backstage.
38. Regal warns her about abusing power before a woman orders him to take out some garbage.
39. Whoever wrote Regal in this segment should be fired. I know Regal is willing to make a fool out of himself for the sake of comedy, but making him into this is just wrong.
40. He deserves to be looked at as the veteran he is and not a joke.
41. Teddy Long is at ringside for the match between Eve and Kaitlyn for a position on Booker T's staff.
42. Why did I feel dirty typing that sentence?
43. Eve is really great at using her facial expressions to make you hate her.
44. Eve is in control for the first minute until Kaitlyn hits a back drop.
45. Eve rips Kaitlyn from the top rope and then hits a swinging neckbreaker for the pin and the win.
46. Not a bad Divas match. Kaitlyn took a few hard moves in that one.
47. Eve rubs the win in Teddy's face afterward because now they both work for Booker.
48. Commercial. So I saw The Campaign this week. First half was good, second half fell a bit flat. Wait for the DVD is what I'm saying.
49. After the break, we see Eve talking to Booker.
50. Book is worried Eve and Teddy won't be able to get along.

51. Despite Eve saying she won't have a problem, he looks skeptical.
52. Five bucks says Booker has her getting coffee next week, or at least something she thinks is beneath her.
53. Daniel Bryan is out first for his match with Orton. He is doing the "No" chant like a pissed off five-year-old.
54. This gimmick is wearing thin for me.
55. The crowd pops for Orton as he comes out.
56. I wonder what WWE is planning on doing with Orton. He really has no direction at the moment.
57. Orton hits a couple shoulder blocks right out of the gate, sending Bryan to the corner to rethink his strategy.
58. Bryan gets into a pretty funny screaming match with a fan at ringside before getting back in the ring.
59. Orton misses a jumping knee drop and Bryan begins to focus on the injured knee.
60. Bryan climbs to the top, but Orton crotches him on the turnbuckle and climbs up to hit a superplex.
61. That move always looks impressive because both men have to feel that pretty bad.
62. After the break, we see Bryan continuing to punish the knee of Orton.
63. D-Bry goes to the well one time too many and Orton rolls over into a near fall.
64. Orton hits a nice powerslam and then sets up for the rope-hung DDT.
65. Bryan pulls Orton out of the ring only to have Orton throw him into the barricade.
66. Bryan is able to run Orton into the steel steps knee first to get control back.
67. Bryan hits a series of chest kicks, but Orton ducks the last one and hits his signature backbreaker.
68. Orton ends up hitting the rope-hung DDT in the corner and then he calls for the RKO.
69. Bryan counters an RKO into a No Lock.
70. He has Orton in the middle of the ring, but Kane's pyro and music hit out of nowhere and Bryan breaks the hold.
71. Bryan leaves the ring to avoid an attack, but Kane never shows.
72. Orton hits the RKO as Bryan comes back in the ring for the pin and the win.
73. Bryan has lost his last two matches. I hope he beats Kane on Sunday.
74. Kane shows up on the stage to laugh at Bryan after his loss.
75. Santino is out for commentary during the next match.
76. Antonio Cesaro is out with Aksana.
77. I miss the Duke Silver-style saxophone that would always accompany Aksana.
78. Cesaro does his five-language routine to say the word loser.
79. A "U-S-A" chant breaks out during the promo.
80. Nice. Zack Ryder is his opponent. I almost forgot about him.
81. Cesaro hits an impressive gut-wrench style suplex right off the bat.
82. Ryder hits a facebuster before hitting a huge Broski Boot.
83. Cesaro hits his finisher for a quick win.
84. After the match, Cesaro knocks Santino's headset off and then shoves him over the announce table.
85. More hype for the Lesnar/Triple H match after the break.
86. If Triple H is the Thor of WWE, then Brock Lesnar is Thanos.
87. ADR is out first for the main event.
88. If Ricardo Rodriguez ever gets released, then he would have a great career calling Spanish soccer games.
89. Sorry, football or futbol. Whatever floats your boat.
90. We go backstage to see Dolph Ziggler attacking Chris Jericho.
91. Booker comes in and sends Ziggler away while he tends to Jericho.
92. Del Rio seems happy to not have a match now that Jericho is out.
93. Jericho ends up coming out holding his stomach after the attack.
94. It looks like the match will happen.
95. Del Rio taunts Jericho, but Jericho lays into him with a few rights.
96. Del Rio quickly gains control and works Jericho over.
97. Del Rio sends Jericho into the announce table before another commercial.
98. Del Rio is still firmly in control when we return.
99. Del Rio hits an Enziguri-style kick to Jericho's gut.
100. Jericho locks in the Walls of Jericho, but Del Rio breaks free.
101. Ziggler pulls down the top rope and Jericho goes over to the outside. The ref is distracted and Ziggler attacks Y2J.
102. Del Rio hits a nasty Enziguri on Jericho to win the match.
103. After the match, Del Rio locks in the Cross-Arm Breaker on Jericho.
104. Sheamus makes the save and chases Del Rio out of the arena.
105. Booker comes out and asks if Sheamus wants the World Title match between Sheamus and Del Rio to be back on for Sunday.
106. Booker Books it.
107. Not a bad show. I would have liked to have seen Damien Sandow, but hopefully he gets a match at the PPV.

Thanks for reading and feel free to share your thoughts and additions to the list below.
