WWE SummerSlam 2012 Card: Predicting the Night's Biggest Winners

Alex BallentineAug 19, 2012

SummerSlam 2012 is the marquee summer event for the WWE, and there are plenty of superstars who are in line to receive a big push as a result of their booking.

Everything is magnified at a pay-per-view. They are generally the big turning points in a feud, push or whatever storyline is involved. A SummerSlam win is a big push for anyone—from established veterans to up-and-comers—so there stands to be big winners to emerge from Sunday's star-studded card.

Here are the wrestlers that will emerge as the biggest winners in the aftermath of SummerSlam.

Antonio Cesaro

Cesaro has gotten a lot of play on SmackDown recently, and he finds himself booked against Santino Marella on the pre-show in a singles match for the United States Championship.

Cesaro has been on a tear recently—on the last SmackDown before SummerSlam, he cut a promo that emphasized his heel character and really drew heat from the crowd. His anti-American vibe is a classic heel characteristic, and he plays to it very well.

Cesaro should win the belt from Santino. Santino's reign with United States championship has been uneventful, and it feels like the belt has been buried. A great way to revive it would be to put it in the hands of the up-and-coming heel who could participate in quality feuds that the fans will buy into.

Cesaro taking the title at SummerSlam could be the beginning of a big push for him in the midcard scene.

Brock Lesnar

Going straight from the pre-show to one of the night's most anticipated matchups, Brock Lesnar will be one of the biggest winners at SummerSlam.

After the WWE botched his PPV return against John Cena at Extreme Rules, they will get a chance to sell Lesnar as a legitimate threat. He shouldn't disappoint this time. The buildup to this match has been intense, especially within the last few weeks.

Lesnar is one of the most marketable commodities that the WWE has. It would be foolish for him to lose at SummerSlam like he did at Extreme Rules. This match with Triple H should be used to make him look as unstoppable as possible and set up a high-profile feud for him at Royal Rumble.

With a huge win against Triple H, Lesnar would once again be one of the biggest stars in the WWE Universe.

Dolph Ziggler

While Cesaro and Lesnar will certainly enjoy a boost from SummerSlam, Dolph Ziggler should be the night's biggest winner.

Ziggler is the current "Mr. Money in the Bank" for the World Heavyweight Championship and is in line for a huge push to the top in the near future.

Expect his huge push to continue as his match with Chris Jericho has the potential to be the best of the night. The match should be Jericho's last in a while; he will leave for a while to tour with his band Fozzy.

Before Jericho leaves, he should put Ziggler over one last time before he ultimately makes a run at the World Heavyweight Championship.

Ziggler has been prominently featured on both SmackDown and Raw recently. He has proven that his ability on the mic and in the ring makes him one of the most entertaining superstars on the roster. A win over Jericho should be just the beginning of Ziggler's ascension to main-event status.
