WWE SummerSlam 2012: Why the 25th Anniversary Will Be the Best Ever

David LevinAug 17, 2012

It won’t be on the same level as WrestleMania 28 (I am still amazed at how we all still talk about it like it was last night).

And it certainly is not as huge or on the same level as Raw’s 1,000th episode.

But even with the uncertainty that still surrounds SummerSlam this year, there is still tremendous potential in this pay-per-view as if it could be a springboard toward the fall and winter months.

Remember, SummerSlam was a huge hit last year. And now that CM Punk is the selfish hero he once was (maybe this time with good reason) and Brock Lesnar is just as evil as ever, there is a chance we could be surprised.

Remember also I was the one who thought No Way Out would be awful and I was wrong (I do not make that statement very often).

So much has happened in the last 23 days in the WWE that it almost seems like we are being force-fed the changes that are taking place. Some good (Punk, AJ being named GM of Raw, Dolph Ziggler and Chris Jericho), and some bad (Daniel Bryan, The Prime Time Players minus A.W., Ryback and Jinder Mahal).

While we are not as excited about CM Punk and his match with John Cena because Big Show has been added to the fray, the idea that AJ is in the middle of the changes and the cockiness of the female GM works well with the lead show of the company.

Dolph Ziggler and Chris Jericho could be the best match of the night. And the WWE needs the heated rivalry because the one with Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio is lost on me and many of the WWE Universe. Hopefully Lesnar and Triple H can live up to the “potential” and yes, there is that word again, it has.

Not the star power it used to have, but it is still pretty good.

But what will honestly make this PPV better than the other 24 PPVs is the mystery and the unknown the show presents itself.

There are new stars who have been rising the ladder as of late in Damien Sandow and Ryback, who could take the WWE to new heights. And there is also the possibility (a hunch) that someone like Wade Barrett will show his face or maybe Mr. McMahon or even better, The Rock.

All we can do in a city like Los Angeles is sit back, strap ourselves in and wait for the long ride. It will either be a roller coaster or a straight shot. But either way, it will be memorable.
