Barcelona Transfer News: Adding Alex Song Would Make Barça La Liga Favorites
Just a day after Robin Van Persie was acquired by Manchester United, Alex Song may be the latest Arsenal player on the move, as he and FC Barcelona seem to have mutual interest. The move frees up about £15 million for the Gunners, but it will be the Catalans benefiting the most, as the potential addition of the Cameroonian midfielder makes them favorites to add another La Liga title to their storied history.
Already a star-studded cast of players like Lionel Messi and Xavi contributing on the offensive end, Song can be a nice piece on defense. In a continual arms race with rival Real Madrid, Barça will look to get back on track after failing to win the La Liga title last season. Of course, Real Madrid took the crown.

"I am not going to lie if I said there is no interest," Song said to Sky Sports. "Barcelona are the best team in the world, and speculation will always continue until the window closes."
Barcelona’s new coach Tito Vilanova has been after a defensive-minded midfielder this entire off-season, although his first choice was Athletic Bilbao’s Javi Martinez. Yet with Song, Barça gets an offensive threat, as well. Also, the move, as opposed to a transfer for Martinez, saves about £20 million, leaving more room for other additions. Song led Arsenal last season with 11 assists and helped Van Persie lead the Premiere League in scoring.
With an all-world talent like Messi, Song’s assist numbers can go through the roof. With Real Madrid quiet in the transfer period leading up to this season, Song is the piece that gets Barcelona past their rivals and back to the La Liga championship.
"(Song) is a fantastic player," said Javier Clemente, Song’s international manager who told Barcelona media. "Physically he is very strong, dynamic, he works very hard and is very good technically. He is at the Barça level."
