Alabama Crimson Tide Fan Tattoo: How Far Would You Go to Support Your Team?

Barrett SalleeAug 16, 2012

The term "fan" is short for "fanatic," and a certain Alabama fan has taken his pride in the Crimson Tide to a whole new level.

According to Busted Coverage, Zack Smartt, a self-proclaimed fourth generation Alabama fan who went to Middle Tennessee State University, spent $1,700 on a massive tattoo on his back that displays his love of the Crimson Tide.

And by massive, we mean MASSIVE.

The giant tattoo features a large elephant standing in the middle of a crimson wave (or "tide," if you wish).

Smartt told Busted Coverage that the tattoo took more than 10-and-a-half hours to complete over three sessions with artist Mike McMahon at All or Nothing Tattoo in Atlanta.

It's impressive work by McMahon.

Tattoos aren't for me, but I appreciate good artwork when I see it.

Is it a negative reflection on Alabama fans that this guy got a $1,700 tattoo?

I don't think so.

If he likes tattoos, likes Alabama and has $1,700 to spend on a back tat, that's fine with me.

What's the craziest thing you have or have done to support your team? Do you have a tattoo similar to Smartt or have gone to an extreme to support a team?
