WWE SummerSlam 2012 Results: Antonio Cesaro Defeats Santino Marella
It was great to see Santino lose the United States Championship. Antonio Cesario is an up-and-coming superstar in the WWE, and putting the title on his waist was the perfect way to get him the face time he deserves on WWE television.
The loss will do little to Santino's career and persona. He's already over with the fans as the lovable and comedic character. At this point in his career, a title isn't even necessary for him to maintain his popularity.
In fact, him holding on to the title for as long as he has only dulled the shine of the championship. Putting the strap on a superstar whose appeal is based more on what he does in the ring is much more appropriate.

These types of decisions will lead the WWE back to the place where I believe it was at its best. The company needs to start emphasizing the importance of holding titles. The belts should make the superstars, not the other way around.
Santino should now move onto another feud where his comedy can be better utilized. Hopefully that is in some angle that doesn't involve one of the WWE's title belts.
