Liverpool Transfer Rumors: Reds Should Allow Charlie Adam to Join Rival Everton

Liverpool should allow Charlie Adam to join rivals Everton before the start of the new Premier League season because the midfielder is an overrated player who should be replaced by younger players on the squad.

Per the Daily Mirror (via Fox Sports):

Everton are ready to make a move for Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam who will be allowed to leave Anfield for £5m, while the Reds are close to sealing a year-long loan deal for Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin.

Adam joined Liverpool last season from Blackpool, who were relegated to the Championship for the 2011-12 season. The Scottish midfielder started 27 league games for the Reds last year, and scored two goals with six assists.

Adam is a good player, but he won't give Liverpool the same level of scoring that he showed at Blackpool in 2011. His ability to be effective on free kicks has declined over the last year, and his defensive abilities have also gotten a bit worse.

If Liverpool can secure a loan for Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin, then Adam's exit would seem inevitable. Even if Sahin wasn't brought to Anfield, Liverpool would still have plenty of quality midfielders in the squad.

After losing promising young midfielder Jack Rodwell to Manchester City, Everton certainly need another midfielder before the start of the new league campaign.

It's not often we see players make a move from Liverpool to Everton, or vice versa, because they are such intense rivals. However, if Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers receives a quality offer for the 26-year-old, then he has no reason to keep him.

The best move for Liverpool is to sell Adam, and allow the young midfielders at the club to get more opportunities to show their talents and gain some needed experience.
