Manchester United Transfer Report: United's £73M Deal for Van Persie
Manchester United officially won the race to sign Arsenal striker Robin van Persie over the summer transfer window, but it seems that the transfer has come at a significant price for the Red Devils.
According to reports, the Dutch international will put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Old Trafford tomorrow worth around £235,000 per week, by the time personal terms and image rights are taken into account.

"The Dutchman is due in Manchester for a medical on Thursday afternoon before he puts pen to paper on a four-year contract understood to be worth £235,000-a-week once image rights are taken into account. That means he will earn £12.2 million a year—a whopping £48.9 million over the course of his United contract.
It is no wonder, then, that he did not even want to discuss Arsenal's proposed £130,000 a week offer.
In addition to the £24 million [transfer] fee that United are paying—with no obvious sell-on potential at the end of the deal—the 19-time English champions will spend a grand total of £72.9 million on the former Feyenoord man.
"
Simply put, it is an incredibly large deal for anyone in world football, but especially for a 29-year-old striker that, in reality, only has one good season under his belt in the English Premier League.
Van Persie has struggled with injuries in the past, and the uncertainty around his health is a topic of great concern among United fans. £24 million is a lot to spend on a player that has a history of struggling to stay fit.
Yet at the same time, £24 million is a great signing for the best player in the English Premier League last season and one of the premier strikers in world football.
As Bleacher Report's Will Tidey points out, the money that Arsenal gained from the transfer is very good business, but at the end of the day, is pointless if it does not lead to goals, results and trophies.
Van Persie's deal to United seems like it will bring all three.
The 29-year-old's keen eye in attack and ability to finish with either foot will no doubt bring in a plethora of goals at Old Trafford this season.
His combination with England international Wayne Rooney will make for the most fearsome duo in the league, and with the likes of Nani, Shinji Kagawa and Antonio Valencia around him, Van Persie will score plenty of goals for the Red Devils.
Goals which will bring results and results that will hopefully bring trophies.
The Gunners' striker has made it perfectly clear that his decision to leave Arsenal is one built around the desire to win trophies and achieve success (per The Telegraph). Now the question remains whether or not he can do so at Old Trafford.
He is at a strong club, with a deep squad and arguably the most brilliant manager in world football. There appears to be no reason why success can't be had for the Red Devils and no reason why they cannot win back the English Premier League from their noisy neighbors, Manchester City.
Who, once a £73 million deal for Van Persie is revealed, could well cry foul that United have bought the English Premier League trophy off them.
And the cycle continues...
