WWE SummerSlam 2012: Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar, Who Needs the Win More?

The Doctor Chris MuellerAug 15, 2012

Two of WWE's most well-known wrestlers, who both happen to only wrestle part time, will be squaring off at this year's SummerSlam pay-per-view in the most hyped match on the card.

We all know the story already. Lesnar sues WWE, Triple H calls him a chicken, Heyman makes fun of Trips' family and Triple H and Lesnar end up in a match. Pretty cut and dry.

Brock Lesnar and Triple H are two of WWE's most successful wrestlers both in and out of the ring, but who needs this win more?

If we assume Lesnar only has one match scheduled for WrestleMania and nothing in between then and SummerSlam, then the choice becomes very clear.

The beauty of Triple H being an executive for the company is that he can lace up his boots and jump back in there whenever WWE needs him or he simply gets the urge to get back in the ring.

Lesnar, on the other hand, lost the only match he has had thus far and is on a limited schedule. Plus, his future post-WrestleMania is still undetermined.

Really, the choice seems simple when you look at these details. Brock Lesnar has to win.

If the WWE wants us to take Lesnar seriously as a threat to everyone in the locker room, then he needs to win a match. It is as simple as that.

Attacking guys like Shawn Michaels will only make you appear so tough, but beating Triple H after you mock his family and he gets pissed makes you look nearly invincible.

Here is how the next seven months are likely to play out for Lesnar.

He will compete at SummerSlam, and then he will disappear for a reason I am sure WWE has yet to decide upon.

Then, out of nowhere, he will return some time before WrestleMania 29 and either begin a feud with someone or attack several people to set up some kind of handicap match.

If Lesnar only wrestles three matches in the span of a year and loses the first two, then he will not be all that credible as a big-time opponent for someone at Mania as he would be if he had a 1-1 record heading into the event.

These details may mean nothing to the casual fan, but to the people who watch week in and week out, they matter.

Believability is important in an industry where 99 percent of the viewing audience knows it is pre-planned, and that is why Lesnar must win to look like a strong opponent.

The great thing about Lesnar winning this match is that he does not need to come away unscathed. Triple H could still take him out in some way after the match to set up him being away from the ring to tend to his "injuries."

I am personally looking forward to this match just to see how WWE plays with the storyline. If Triple H pulls out the win, then WWE will have surprised quite a few people.

What do you think? Who needs this win more?
