Robin Van Persie's Transfer to Manchester United Makes Club Unbeatable

Donald WoodAug 15, 2012

In one of the biggest transfers in recent memory, Manchester United’s gamble on acquiring English Premier League star Robin Van Persie has paid off for Arsenal to the tune of £24 million, according to BBC's David Ornstein.

"

BREAKING: Man Utd agree £24m deal to sign Robin van Persie from Arsenal. 4-yr deal, terms & medical in next 48 hours #bbcfootball #afc #mufc

— David Ornstein (@bbcsport_david) August 15, 2012"

The report from ESPN says Van Persie is scheduled for his medical on Thursday and will work on the personal details of the deal before everything is finalized.

Arsenal’s official website is reporting about the transfer of the veteran star:

"

Arsenal Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed for the transfer of Robin van Persie to Manchester United…Van Persie will travel to Manchester on Thursday in order to agree personal terms and complete a medical ahead of the proposed move.

"

This deal is the ultimate example of the rich getting richer.

Manchester United was already one of the best teams in the EPL—boasting stars like Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck—but the addition of a star like Van Persie puts the squad on another level.

RVP put up amazing numbers last season with Arsenal (30 goals, nine assists and 174 shots), but it was his unwillingness to sign long-term at the Emirates that forced the club’s hand. With a healthy reward from Man U, though, the pain of watching a player of Van Persie’s stature go is a bit less painful.

As for next season, the combination of Rooney and RVP will result in one of the greatest duos in EPL history. Both men have such a knack for scoring that almost any ball struck into the middle of the field will have an amazing chance of being buried in the net.

Add in the finesse touch with the ball that both men posses, and there is little doubt that Manchester United will be the club to beat this year.

With Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand and the rest of the Man U defense stepping up to support their elite forwards, the team must look to rally around their current roster and win now. If all of these elite pieces can come together as a cohesive unit, there is no team in the EPL that can beat Manchester United.

Still don’t think they’re the favorites? Just ask RVP and Rooney’s combined 57 goals last year where they’ll finish the season.
