Robin Van Persie Transfer: What Move to Manchester United Means for RVP

David DanielsJun 7, 2018

Manchester United now has the best two scorers in the EPL.

Arsenal’s official website reported on Wednesday that Robin van Persie will transfer to the Red Devils this window. The announcement read:

"

Arsenal Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed for the transfer of Robin van Persie to Manchester United. Van Persie will travel to Manchester on Thursday in order to agree personal terms and complete a medical ahead of the proposed move.

Well, apparently, all of Arsene Wenger’s acquisitions were to replace RVP, not convince him to stay—or, at least that was the ultimate outcome.

Van Persie’s move to Old Trafford will without a doubt put him in position to accomplish what he’s been claiming his goal to be—win a title, though Gunners fans would beg to differ. But that’s beside the point.

With Wayne Rooney and Van Persie in the fold, Man Utd has to be considered the favorite to take the Premier League crown in 2013. No other club boasts nearly as much scoring power at the forward position. They were the top two goal scorers in the entire league last season—Van Persie launching 30 footballs past opposing goalies and Rooney 27.

For comparison's sake, if you combine Manchester City’s top three forwards’ production—Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli—their numbers still don’t match a frontline of Van Persie and Rooney. Aguero, Dzeko and Balotelli combined for 50 goals last year next to the Red Devils’ new duo's 57.

That’s insane.

That isn’t fair.

But I highly doubt they care.

Van Persie’s numbers will drop because he doesn’t have to put the team on his back to win games anymore, but that doesn’t mean his effectiveness has to plummet. Expect him to fit right in on the most prestigious EPL club ever and help lead it back to prominence.
