Tim Tebow Jesus Photo: Fans Shouldn't Be Outraged over Dated Image
If the most damning photo of a person from college is of him in a pose that brings Jesus to mind, chances are that person does not need to be anywhere near the front of criticism line, or he is shrewdly capable of avoiding having his image captured.
Shoot, l offend myself while looking back on my college pics.
Of course, if the person in question is Tim Tebow, nothing less than full-blown controversy coverage and reaction should be expected.
Tebow is in the latest GQ striking a pose that is easily construed as being "Jesus on the cross." Well here, you can check it out for yourself.
Craig Carton, host of a New York radio show on WFAN, took Tebow to task over the following picture.
Fox News captured some of his comments
"Carton ridiculing him as a "narcisist" and a "fraud," and calling him "sexy Jesus."
“He gets it, he plays the role,” Carton said. “He’s typically very, very sincere and very, very consistent about who he is and what his beliefs are. You just saw a little inkling into what he thinks of himself.”
"
As Fox News points out, there were callers chiming in with their agreement of Carton's stance.
Fox News also calls to attention that while this picture was in the current issue, it was actually taken and published while Tebow was playing for the University of Florida, a fact that Carton may not have been aware of and didn't mention.
Would that change his opinion? Who knows. I'm struggling to figure out how he could get so worked up about it in the first place.
You have to have an intense bias against Tebow to arrive at Caron's conclusion. There is nothing to suggest that Tebow assumed that pose to be sacrilegious or say that he was the second coming. It was probably the photographer's idea, and it is far more logical to assume the intent was to pay tribute.
This is an artsy type of shot, and coming to any conclusions on the motivation behind pieces that are up for interpolation is murky business, and as this blogger points out, art appreciation is in the eye of the beholder.
"Tim Tebow poses shirtless and it causes a major scandal. Lady Gaga wears meat and people call it 'art.'

It is worth pointing out that I am no Tim Tebow apologist. In fact, yours truly has been among those accused of being a Tebow hater, but I am not so biased that I am going to take him to task for this photo.
The only thing that deserves to be controversial about this pic is the controversy itself!
