Madden NFL 13: Best New Features in This Year's Game

Colin KennedyMay 31, 2018

As the best selling sports series on the market, EA Sports' Madden NFL franchise has been forced to make constant tweaks and improvements over the years in order to keep up with advancing technology.

And many believe 2013 marks the biggest gameplay changes to date.

While many obsess over the alleged "Madden Curse" and which NFL superstar will pose for the cover, Electronic Arts has focused on enhancing the overall gameplay experience as best as possible.

Several new features to this year's version should make Madden even more realistic than it's predecessors.

And with modern graphics that have been known to trick unknowing spectators into believing they are watching live NFL action, groundbreaking improvements should be monumental for gamers.

Here is a sneak peak of some of Madden's best new features:

Infinity Engine

Perhaps the biggest addition to this year's game will be the introduction of Infinity Engine—a high-tech physics engine that incorporates a player’s weight, center of mass, body type and height into every movement.

The new system is designed to make the in-game action more realistic than ever and will allow the sturdiest of ball carriers to fight for extra yardage at the end of plays.

Infinity Engine also throws another twist into the running game as it enables you to collide with your own teammates and forces players to read their blocks.

Commentary and Audio

After receiving overwhelming numbers of complaints about the repetitive nature of the in-game commentary last year, EA Sports finally made the move to improve.

Jim Nantz and Phil Simms recently signed on to call the action for Madden 13, and with plenty of video game commentary experience on the resume, the differences are noticeable.

Electronic Arts also teamed up with NFL Films to incorporate exclusive sound clips, such as QB cadences, hits, tackles and group chatter into the game.

Improved Passing Game

As the NFL continually transforms into a pass-first league, EA Sports has maintained its commitment to realistic game play with the Total Control Passing Mechanic.

The new feature will allow quarterbacks to guide receivers to open slots and make important, last second adjustments at the line. New pass animations hasten the time in which quarterbacks snap the ball, execute play action fakes and release the football.

Madden Social

The introduction of Madden NFL Social will allow users to enjoy Madden from a local desktop or laptop computer. Using Facebook or even a mobile device, gamers will now be able to play friends online for minutes or hours at a time.

The new feature will also enable players to share their gaming experiences with friends via social platforms like Facebook and Twitter directly from their video game console.
