WWE SummerSlam 2012: Why Chris Jericho Should Beat Dolph Ziggler

Everyone knows that Chris Jericho has a sub-par win-loss record in WWE wrestling in 2012. That is especially true on pay-per-views, where he has yet to win.

While this is partly due to his desire to put over worthy Superstars, the WWE Universe—particularly his massive "Jerichoholic" fanbase—aren't too receptive to what has transpired.

On SmackDown, Jericho, during his Highlight Reel segment, officially resurrected the "Y2J" persona, unquestionably making him a babyface. This was a turn that was exhilarating, refreshing and long overdue. Although he is an amazing heel, he was in dire need of a character change. Being a face again was the perfect solution to that problem.

With recent reports stating that Jericho will be departing the WWE once again after SummerSlam, he needs to defeat Dolph Ziggler to leave on a high note. It will be a small atonement for his rather dismal return and will give Jericho his final chance to win the "big one."

Last year, Daniel Bryan won the SmackDown Money in the Bank Ladder match and lost cleanly to a yet-to-be hugely pushed Wade Barrett the following month at SummerSlam. Did this hurt Bryan's career in the long run? Absolutely not. He became World Heavyweight Champion a few months later and hasn't look back since.

Ziggler can fall in that same category. A feud with Jericho is the perfect choice, and they will put on a wrestling clinic at the PPV.

Ziggler, however, does not need to win this match. He could very well lose and return the same night to cash in the MITB briefcase and become WHC. This is proof that a Jericho win would be much more beneficial.

So please, WWE—let Jericho leave the WWE on the well-deserved winning side.
