Austin Aries vs. Bobby Roode: Where Both TNA Stars Go Following Hardcore Justice

Jun 7, 2018

After Austin Aries defeated Bobby Roode to retain the TNA World Heavyweight title at Hardcore Justice, announcers Mike Tenay and Taz reminded the fanbase that there was a no-rematch clause in their contract.

That makes this feud over, unless TNA pulls a swerve (a legitimate possibility).

While Roode and Aries have been putting on amazing shows in the main events of the last two pay-per-views, the Bound for Glory Series is starting to draw to a close.

At No Surrender on September 9, the No. 1 contender for the TNA world heavyweight championship will be decided in a one-night playoff.

Effectively, Impact Wrestling has to stall for a month.

As TNA rolls on, there are serious questions about what happens next for the two stars in Sunday’s main event. That’s what we’re here to answer.

Austin Aries and Bobby Roode

For A-Double, the focus needs to remain on holding the title through the next two months.

With most of the biggest stars in the company already involved with the BFG Series, the smartest thing for TNA to do would be to have Roode somehow weasel his way back into one more main event.

Aries against Roode for a third time would seem like a retread, but as long as Aries goes over, the focus of No Surrender will be the finals of the Bound for Glory Series.

Just like WWE, TNA will use No Surrender (a secondary PPV) as a holdover show for their biggest event of the year. Sometimes, that’s just what has to be done.

Add in the intrigue of the possible confrontations with the Aces and Eights gang, and TNA must keep A-Double as the focus of the show despite having to tread water.

If they can pull this off, it will prove the company’s course has truly changed.

Conclusion

It is abundantly clear that Roode will be a thorn in Aries' side for the remainder of the time leading up to No Surrender, and possibly even after.

Once the No. 1 contender to Aries' title is crowned, the focus will shift from Roode to the main event at TNA’s biggest PPV of the year, Bound for Glory.

The focus will only shift if TNA is not trying to make Bound for Glory a three-way battle for the title between Roode, Aries and James Storm. That would be interesting, but not what the fans want to see.

No matter where TNA goes from here, the truth is that they have a plethora of homegrown talent at the main-event level.

Their roster depth led by Aries and Roode proves they won’t be going anywhere but up over the next few years.
