Barcelona Transfer Rumors: Alex Song Would Be a Waste of Money for La Liga Club
Bringing Arsenal midfielder Alex Song to the Nou Camp would be a waste of money for Barcelona because the Catalan club already have enough depth in the midfield.
Per ESPN Soccernet:
"Recent reports in the Spanish press suggested that, after Song's fine 2011-12 campaign, the Catalans were ready to make an official move, with El Mundo Deportivo reporting on Monday that they have already offered €15 million.

Song is a fantastic player and really impressed for Arsenal last year in all areas of the pitch. He was also a key part of the London club's third place in the Premier League.
But with Sergio Busquets and Javier Mascherano already in the Barca squad as world-class defensive midfielders, there's no need to add Song. It would be difficult for Song to see the pitch regularly with all of the quality midfielders that Barca currently have.
Even if Song was going to play an attacking role in Spain, Barca still have Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Cesc Fabregas ahead of him on the depth chart.
Barcelona need a center back and/or a striker before the transfer window closes for the summer, not another midfielder such as Song.
Barcelona would be better off using the midfielders they currently have and not making any major improvements to that part of the squad.
If they need someone else to offer some more playmaking in the midfield, then giving Thiago more time on the pitch would be the best scenario. The 21-year-old has a bright future ahead of him at the club.
There's no question that Song is a fine player and would fit in nicely in La Liga, but he would be surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp.
If Barcelona really wanted to buy another midfielder for next season, then Javi Martinez of Athletic Bilbao would be a better option over Song.
